Four College of Dentistry students selected for AHEC Scholars Program

Four College of Dentistry students were recently selected for the Nebraska Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Scholars Program, a two-year learning experience for students interested in practicing in rural and underserved areas of Nebraska.

AHEC Scholars gain access to exclusive workshops, potential employers, community leaders, and national and state resources on the latest health topics. The program's core topic areas are: interprofessional education, behavioral health integration, social determinants of health, cultural competency and practice transformation.

72 scholars from across Nebraska were selected for the program, including College of Dentistry students Sydney Armstrong, Jordan Brozek, Edward Hardy and Sophia Pankratz - featured below. This is the first year College of Dentistry students have applied for the program.
"I am very excited to have the opportunity to take part in the AHEC Scholars Program. I look forward to making connections and training in community-based settings in congruence with my education in dental school. Through this program, I believe that I will take a large step forward in becoming not only a qualified dentist, but a community leader as well."

Diwali Display

Diwali is the Festival of Lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. It is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

During Diwali, geometric patterns, religious symbols and floral designs called Rangoli are drawn on the floor of one’s home to bring good luck.

This beautiful Rangoli was made by UNMC dental students (l to r) Ben Kincaid, Khushbu Ijner, Deepthi Kollipara, Sneha Suresh and Prabhdiljit Singh.

The College of Dentistry's American Student Dental Association (ASDA) chapter held their second annual "Mr. Molar" pageant on Oct. 23.

College of Dentistry E-Learning teams receive funding to create interactive modules

Each year, through a competitive application process, UNMC's E-Learning program awards faculty and student teams for the creation of online, interactive modules.

This year, three College of Dentistry faculty and student teams were selected to receive funding provided by the Office of the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. They will work with UNMC's E-Learning team to create engaging e-modules that benefit the UNMC learning community.
