Rachel Kornfeld, CEO, was honored to be inducted into the Norwich Rotary Club on behalf of Jewish Family Services of Norwich. The collaboration and compassion within the Norwich community have helped JFS to thrive and expand from one small space to sharing two floors with Rose City Learning Center at the Foundry on Ferry, along with weekly office hours in New London as well. Thank you to the Norwich Rotary Club for welcoming JFS into the club and the community.

We want to extend thanks to our summer interns for the energy and dedication they brought to JFS. Throughout their time with us, they contributed to meaningful work across our programs, supported staff and clients, and embraced every opportunity to learn and grow.

An update for Haitian TPS - On August 05, 2026, the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia confirmed that its previous order blocking the termination of Haitian TPS (Temporary Protected Status) is no longer in effect. The ordered prevented the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from implementing the termination of Haitian TPS. Haitian TPS Beneficiaries can no longer rely on that order for protection against the termination. This leaves many Haitian TPS holders with uncertainty about their immigration status and future in the United States. Those who held Haitian TPS are encouraged to reach out to qualified legal institutions and non-profits like Jewish Family Services to see if there are other means of obtaining legal status here in the United States.

Recently, in the Seventh and Ninth Circuit Courts, it was ruled that noncitizens arrested within the United States are detained under 8 U.S.C. § 1226 and remain eligible for an immigration detention bond hearing. The courts rejected the Department of Homeland’s Security position that 8 U.S.C. § 1225(b)(2)(A) requires mandatory detention without a hearing. In other words, this is a win towards providing many who are detained with a chance of obtaining a Bond Hearing and being released from custody. If you or a member from your community have been detained they are encouraged to contact local nonprofits including Jewish Family Services that may be able to request a Bond Hearing for the detained noncitizen. 

Clinical Interns Nicole Franchella and Mauro Fidaleo represented the JFS Bennett Center for Behavioral Health at the Greenwich YMCA. During the event, they met with YMCA members, shared information about the behavioral health services available through JFS, and answered questions about support and resources offered to individuals and families in the community.
