June is Pride Month, and while we celebrate our LGBTQIA+ neighbors all year, it's a special time of year to champion inclusion and wellness for LGBTQIA+ community members. Below you will find staff pick booklists, events and links to community partners.

SUMMER PROGRAMS START NEXT WEEK!

In addition to signing up for the Summer Learning Challenge, don't miss our special summer programs! Beginning June 16, our summer perfomer series kicks off with a bubblelicious good time - Sterling Bubbles: Tuesday at Magical Bridge, Wednesday at Redwood Shores Branch Library and Saturday at Downtown Library. Want to get your wiggles out? Try JAMaROO on Wednesdays at Schaberg Branch Library and Music with Val on Wednesdays at Downtown Library. How about take your little ones for a playdate in a park and catch a Library storytime while you're there? Check out our Stories in the Park schedule! Here's are the events beginning week of June 15:

Thank you to Friends of the Redwood City Public Library for sponsoring the programming of the Summer Learning Challenge and the Redwood City Library Foundation for ensuring every youth participant receives not one but two books! ⁠

JUNETEENTH ART EXHIBITS & PROGRAMS

In June, visit the Downtown Library and Redwood Shores Branch Library to view the Threads of Culture - Art Exhibition. The exhibition explores how personal stories, traditions and creative expression intertwine to reveal the evolving tapestry of culture and community. Another exhibition, Ravenswood Remembered, starts June 9 at the San Mateo County History Museum.

Juneteenth events include author Marissa McGee presenting Free the Curls, a Juneteenth Printmaking workshop, a Historical Perspective and Conversation with Lois Fried, and family-friendly Storytelling and Music with Kirk Waller. On June 19 at 6pm, don’t miss celebrating the Juneteenth holiday with Music on the Square - Patton Leatha.

The Downtown Library invites families to join us for Lunch at the Library, a free summer program offering nutritious meals for kids and teens in a welcoming, engaging environment. From June 15 through July 24, children can enjoy healthy lunches while exploring food and farm-themed activities and books designed to support learning, curiosity, and well-being. No registration is required.


This institution is an equal opportunity provider. The Summer Food Service Program is a program of the U. S. Department of Agriculture, administered in California by the California Department of Education. Lunch at the Library is a project of the California State Library, supported with funds from the State of California.

La Biblioteca Central invita a las familias a participar en Almuerzo en la Biblioteca, un programa de verano gratuito que ofrece comidas nutritivas para niños y adolescentes en un ambiente acogedor y estimulante. A partir del 15 de junio al 24 de julio, los niños podrán disfrutar de almuerzos saludables mientras participan en actividades y leen libros con temas relacionados a la alimentación y la agricultura, diseñados para fomentar el aprendizaje, la curiosidad y el bienestar. No es necesario inscribirse.

Summer is here, and the Friends of the Redwood City Public Library Bookstore, located next to the Downtown Library lobby, is stocked with affordable and fun finds for readers of all ages. Whether you're planning road trips, beach days or relaxing afternoons at home, you'll find plenty of great books and activities to keep everyone entertained. And while you're visiting the Library, don't forget to sign up for the Summer Learning Challenge and make reading part of your best summer yet!


Looking to clear some shelf space at home? The Friends' next Donation Event is Saturday, June 20. Donations of books, CDs, DVDs, puzzles, video games and albums in very good condition will be accepted at two locations: behind the Downtown Library from 10am-12pm and at the Redwood Shores Branch Library parking lot from 10-11:30am. Donations help keep the Bookstore stocked and support Library programs and services.
