September 2023 Newsletter
Dear friends,
As we approach the end of our fiscal year, we want to share some stories that highlight the impact of your support, which helps empower survivors to rebuild their lives. Each woman below is completing our RISE Plus program and moving on to a brighter future. Their journeys took incredible resilience, determination, and hope. Here are brief snapshots of some of their journeys:
| | |
Roxanne* recently transitioned to independent housing of her own. She worked hard to complete a paralegal program while at MSP. She secured a job as a paralegal, and is now applying to college to further ensure her family's future and continued independence.
Sandra* recently completed the city's Project Empowerment Program. Now an administrative assistant, Sandra's journey continues in a new Transitional Housing Program sustained by her job, where she is focused on career development and training.
Reina* is determined to provide her children with a brighter future. After successfully transitioning to a Rapid Rehousing Program, she is now seeking better career opportunities through improving her English and job training.
Jordan* balanced English lessons, maintaining employment, and raising her beautiful children while at MSP. Because of her determination, she is now transitioning to her own independent housing, sustained be her employment and growing language skills.
Your support has helped women like Roxanne, Sandra, Reina, and Jordan overcome adversity, transcend barriers, and secure independence. Thank you so much.

Volunteer Spotlight and Howard Move-in Project
We are delighted to shine a light on one of our amazing volunteers, Cathy. Cathy has been volunteering with My Sister’s Place for over a year. Her dedication and commitment to our mission of helping women and children survivors find healing and a fresh start is truly inspiring.
Cathy's contributions to our organization are invaluable. She spends most of her time with our administrative staff, ensuring that everything runs smoothly. From organizing our storage room to preparing rooms for new clients, Cathy is always ready to lend a helping hand. She also assists with meal preparations, supports events hosted by MSP, and plays with the children, providing them with much-needed care and support.
After attending our orientation workshop, Cathy knew that MSP was the perfect fit for her. She wanted to give back to the community and make an immediate difference in the lives of those who need help the most. Thank you, Cathy!

A heartfelt shout-out goes to the dedicated students from Howard University and our staff volunteers, who generously gave their time and energy to lend a helping hand. Their collective efforts transformed our storage site, the hub of furnishings and essential items for our clients' homes. Because of their help, the storage unit has been organized, ensuring quicker and safer access to necessities for our clients.
Our Move-In Program was established in January 2020 to furnish and decorate transitional housing apartments for survivors. It's through the collaborative spirit of our volunteers that we can create spaces where our clients can thrive from day one.
