Cars for CARES raised over $50,000 for cancer research at the home of George Shinn on Monday, October 17. Famed NASCAR Legend Kyle Petty joined the event to share stories from the stage with George Shinn and Host Scott Hamilton. 

“What connects all of us is our stories. It was so special to learn about George Shinn and Kyle Petty’s lives from humble beginnings, to losses, to great success….all culminating in fascinating life events. Somehow, we are all bonded over our love of cars in different ways. I am grateful for George and his hospitality and for sharing his private residence with CARES. It was an honor to have Kyle join us and I appreciate his heart, humor, generosity, and shared mission in serving those in need. Celebrating Survivorship

Amelia Prentice Keene lost her mother and her mother’s two sisters to breast cancer at a young age, only to relive the disease again as a breast cancer patient herself. 

After receiving her diagnosis early in 2020 and surgery that May, Amelia was relieved to learn that the cancer had not spread to her lymph nodes. Following that surgery and radiation, Amelia will stay on medication for several years and have regular follow-ups with her oncologist and surgeon.  As a skater and US Figure Skating Judge, Amelia was happy to return to the ice in June 2020 and recently completed a Frozen 5k as a part of Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer™ Vegas!

It’s a wonderful feeling to have the support of so many fellow skaters, old skating friends, fellow judges, and club members. Viva Las Vegas!

What happens in Vegas...is a whole lot of fundraising! We celebrated Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer™ Vegas earlier this month with a timed Frozen 5k and a celebration ice show at Lifeguard Arena in Henderson, Nevada. With over $28,000 raised, Scott had a great time celebrating with the staff and patients from our healthcare partners at Cure 4 the Kids and our fundraisers from the Vegas Golden Knights Center of Excellence! 

Our celebration culminated with an ice show Emceed by Scott Hamilton with performances from our top fundraisers and featuring our special guests US National Champion and CARES Ambassador Ryan Bradley, Israeli Nation Champion Daniel Samohin, and Swiss National Champion Yazmine Yamada. 

Thank you to the participants, donors, volunteers, and sponsors for the warm Vegas welcome - we can't wait to return in 2023!
