This March, we are honouring the women and girls of Santa Cruz.

Women are the pillars of our community; their resilience and knowledge sustain families, preserve indigenous culture, and drive progress across Santa Cruz.

For nearly 20 years, Amigos has supported local women in redefining traditional gender roles and creating their own opportunities in the most remote communities. Having access to education, the ability to generate their own income, and training in sexual and reproductive health is life-changing.

Yet there is still work to do. Women in Santa Cruz continue to face barriers to education, economic opportunity, and representation in leadership positions.

This month, we are renewing our commitment to women and girls in our community.

Leave "WOMEN" in the donation note to help us continue uplifting women and girls in Santa Cruz.

Education Changes Women's Lives

When we invest in girls' education, their lifetime income increases, child marriage rates decline, and they can build better futures for themselves and their families.

Through our scholarship program in Santa Cruz, we see more women become the first in their families to graduate each year.

This month, we are proud to highlight Nicolasa, who is completing her Nursing Technician degree at UPANA and will graduate this month - becoming the first in her family to graduate from university.

"The scholarship support has been a blessing that changed my academic and personal path. Thanks to this opportunity, I was able to continue my studies from high school through university, something that at many moments seemed difficult for me and my family. Their help gave me motivation and the strength to believe that my goals were truly possible.

I am deeply grateful because this opportunity has marked a before and after in my life. I encourage every woman who can to continue their studies and become who they want to be in life. Little by little, anyone can achieve every goal or dream."

Equality can only be achieved if the diversity, differences and strengths of everyone are valued. Respect for others is a key value underpinning International Woman's Day.

At Siqajan School, this month's Civic Act, led proudly by our second graders, focused on exploring the meaning and importance of respect. These lessons go far behind the classroom, helping to build empathy, confidence, and a deep appreciation for one another's differences.

By emphasising these values from an early age, we are laying a strong foundation for building equitable futures — supporting both girls and boys at Siqajan School find their voice and grow into strong, respectful leaders in their communities.
