THE MUSEUM MINUTE

The second month of Russia's brutal, criminal, destructive attack of cities and civilians continues in Ukraine -including children, women, seniors - no one of the 43 million people in Ukraine are safe!

As Women's History Month comes to the end , we would be remiss not to honor and praise the brave and inspiring women of Ukraine!

Ever since the annexation of Crimea and the war by (Russia's ) backed separatists in the Donbas region going on since 2014, Ukrainian women have stepped up and have been taking up arms ever since. In 2018 a law ensured ''equal rights" with the men's counterparts. They are now able to study in military colleges to obtain higher ranks.

Did you know that?
  • recent survey by the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs showed that more than 15% of Ukraine's army are made up of women.
  • Ukrainian army has the highest percentage of women serving in it than any other army in the world besides Israel and growing every day.
  • Young and old women call themselves as the "rear front line" which consists of all operations supporting the front line of fighting against Russia. They are sewing vest, and gear,, they are making camouflage nets in sewing circles, and helping take care of all the orphaned and elderly.
Great articles about women supporting Ukraine in the war against Russia!

Elena Diadenko solo art exhibition opening
Colors of Life
Elena will be donating all her proceeds from the sale of her paintings to the nonprofit organization

Admission $10.00
Elena has participated in more than 60 art exhibitions including solo and group shows and art fairs in the Chicagoland area. This is her first exhibition at the Ukrainian National Museum. Recently, she is focusing on painting artworks that explore invisible aspects of the spiritual world and our desire to see it. In her glass paintings, she is trying to preserve Ukrainian folk culture using an ancient Ukrainian technique with black outlines. In her acrylic paintings, she combines abstract with figurative styles. Inspiration comes from life around the artist: “The world is so strange, so attractive, so multi-faceted- I can’t help but love it. All that I do, all that I paint, comes out of this love I feel for the world, for all that is alive in this world, for my fellow travelers, and for God."
