What Surprised You Most About Building STEPS?

One thing that surprised me the most was how well the Building STEPS program and students have been able to adapt to this new virtual world. Building STEPS has mastered how to create engaging and thoughtful sessions, for both students and volunteers, so they are able to make the most out of each event; even if we cannot all be together in person.

What Trends Do You See In Corporate Volunteerism?

For obvious reasons, we see companies promoting more virtual volunteerism to advance their objectives, as opposed to the traditional in-person volunteerism of years past. But many companies still have the perception that virtual volunteering is not as impactful or effective, and that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Volunteering Virtually

Capitalizing on remote programming and working from home, volunteers looking for new opportunities found Building STEPS. Today, volunteers from six states support our students through 1:1 tutoring and essay writing assistance, professional networking and panel discussions. Seminar hosts too far for a site visit deliver interactive programming remotely. We are grateful to those stretching the boundaries of volunteerism. Our students are the direct beneficiaries of this outreach. We invite you join our extraordinary team of volunteers.
Opportunities to Make an Impact
We look forward to engaging with students and volunteers in person again very soon. Building STEPS offers a variety of  both virtual and in-person (resuming fall 2021) opportunities to connect with and show support for our students. From tutoring and writing advising to seminar host and career exploration activities, there's a place for every interested volunteer!
