Women's History Month
Ancient Pioneer: Hildegard of Bingen
“We shall awaken from our dullness and rise vigorously toward justice. If we fall in love with creation deeper and deeper, we will respond to its endangerment with passion.”
Hildegard of Bingen, also known as Saint Hildegard and the Sibyl of the Rhine, was a powerful force and pioneer in her own day. Speaking to us from the 12th century, her discoveries and wisdom ring out especially for these times. She offers us a framework for seeing our spiritual relationship to the earth and the healing of both the environment and our bodies. A Renaissance woman long before the Renaissance, she is one of only four women Doctors of the Church, as well as a writer, composer, philosopher, Christian mystic, Benedictine abbess, healer, artist, feminist, and student of science.
The Wisdom Café

Join us at the Wisdom Café, held each Monday from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Zoom. It's an hour of friendly companionship--no commitment, no charge. Come and go as you please!

Please enjoy this copy of "The Open Door" a poem from Danna Faulds' book Root to Bloom. It inspired an interesting discussion, especially as we anticipate springtime! Perhaps you'll give the café a try next Monday. Feel free to invite a friend to come along and to enjoy this "time out" at the Wisdom Café! Here's the Zoom link

If you would like to receive an email reminder on Monday mornings (which will include the zoom link,) please sign up here

“In an era when women were marginalized, Hildegard was an outspoken, controversial figure. Yet so visionary was her insight that she was sought out by kings, popes, abbots, and bishops for advice. A sixteenth century follower of Martin Luther called her “the first Protestant” because of her appeals to reform the church.”
- Matthew Fox

In honor of Women's History Month we are featuring featuring Matthew Fox's book, about Hildegard of Bingen called HILDEGARD OF BINGEN: A Saint for Our Times: Unleashing Her Power in the 21st Century. You can find it on the Retreat House Book Shop.
