Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario Celebrates World Habitat Day 2020 and Announces $75,000 Gift from Tachane Foundation

October 5, 2020 – London, ON – Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario joins the United Nations in celebrating World Habitat Day today, October 5th 2020. On this day we come together as a community, joining our partners around the world, to rededicate ourselves to recognizing the basic right of everyone to adequate shelter.

The Tachane Foundation has partnered with Habitat for Humanity Canada and local Habitats across the country  to empower more people through access to decent and affordable housing. Today, Habitat Heartland is excited to announce a $75,000 gift from the Tachane Foundation that will support the Munsee-Delaware Nation Indigenous Build on Traditional Territory for four Indigenous families. Habitat Heartland would like to thank Tachane Foundation’s President Rusty Sutherland and his wife Tammy Sutherland for this generous support of the Indigenous Housing Partnership in Munsee-Delaware Nation.

“The message of World Habitat Day is more relevant now than ever,” says Brian Elliot, CEO Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario. “Every one of us deserves the opportunity for a better future, and a decent place to live can remove barriers to opportunity, health and success. Support from our partners, including the Tachane Foundation, truly makes a difference in the lives of families in our community through affordable, safe and decent homeownership.”

Housing is a human right and a catalyst for all other fundamental rights. COVID-19 has required that people stay home to stay safe, but this is impossible for those who do not have adequate housing. On World Habitat Day, Habitat Heartland is amplifying the message that everyone of us has the power and responsibility to shape the future of our community through affordable homeownership.
