Today, June 20 th , is World Refugee Day, a global celebration of the contributions, courage, and resilience of refugees. Our community is better, stronger, and brighter with the skills and diversity of refugees and immigrants; in fact, many of them have jobs that have them serving on the frontlines of the current pandemic.

JFS is here to support EVERYONE and fight oppression in all forms. Now, more than ever, we realize the challenges of being labeled an “other” and, as the only resettlement agency in Delaware, we are grateful for the opportunity to serve and support these incredible families, hear and share their inspiring stories, and advocate for the acceptance of ALL individuals in an inclusive, welcoming society.

Thank you to everyone—community volunteers, local congregations, the State of Delaware and its leaders, and national partners like HIAS and ORR —who helps JFS do this important work...we couldn't do it without you; together, we open our doors, arms, minds, and hearts to help refugees make Delaware their home.

During World Refugee Day and all year long, we celebrate our strength in diversity.

Showing We Care:
Thanks to United Way of Delaware's critical relief funds, this week, the JFS RISE team assembled and delivered Stay-at-Home Care Packages including food, hygiene products, games, and more, as well as much-needed financial support, to keep Delaware's refugee families healthy, thriving, and enjoying time together. The current pandemic and recent racial injustices have been particularly difficult for these families to navigate and they have been so grateful for the support they continue to receive, not just from JFS but from community volunteers and partner agencies like United Way.
We are all in this together!

Another big THANK YOU to our dedicated and passionate volunteers and community partners, without whom this work would not be possible!
Take Action!

We all have a role to play as allies and neighbors. Delaware's Refugee Congress Delegate, Lourena Gboeah, shares a few things you can do to advocate for refugee resettlement and inclusive communities:
Click to view Lourena's message .
  1. Continue welcoming new, diverse neighbors into our community!
  2. Encourage Congress and Legislators to advocate for refugee resettlement, support legislation and policies to end family separation and migrant detention, and promote community-based alternatives.
  3. Hold the administration accountable to restoring the the Refugee Resettlement Program and asylum protections to historic norms.
  4. Bring refugee voices to the table, share their stories, and spread awareness—encourage your friends, family, colleagues, and legislators to do the same!
Support JFS RISE!

Thank you to those who continue to support JFS RISE; every dollar counts to helping refugee and immigrant families live in comfort, safety, and dignity.
