Have you found yourself giving in too often, yelling too much, or making excuses for your child's behavior? Here's how to establish order and harmony in your home and avoid power struggles. The key, says author Bob Barnes, is to have a family plan of shared responsibilities and consequences so that your children know what is expected of them. Read and learn how to create a plan and how to respond when your child fails to meet the plan -- when he or she lies, argues with siblings, fails at a task, or faces peer pressure. Barnes shows you how to discipline your children with consistency and love without feeling guilty or causing anger or resentment.

PARENTING TIP OF THE MONTH
Helping Children Cope with Tragedy
According to the Topline MD Alliance, it is important, in the face of tragedy, to strike a balance between a child's emotional well-being and having honest discussions about difficult topics.
The following are tips parents can use to navigate these hard conversations:
- Create a safe and open environment
- Strive for honesty but avoid overwhelming details
- Monitor news exposure, especially graphic or upsetting content
- Reassure and emphasize safety and security
- Encourage children to ask questions and express thoughts openly
When engaging in conversations with children about distressing topics, it is essential to remain vigilant for signs that may reveal anxiety. These signs can range from sleep disturbance to developmental regression. If there are persistent or prolonged disruptive behaviors, parents may find that they must seek professional assistance and guidance for their young ones.
More and more tragedies occur around us daily, and talking to children about them cannot be avoided. In fact, such conversations may inevitably help them learn resilience and empathy - two qualities that are needed to navigate the world they will be inheriting.

We are growing! Grow with us! Helping doesn't have to be complicated. Just use what you know how to do to help. That's called volunteering! We are always in need of new volunteers and would greatly appreciate your time in any way that you can contribute. If you have teenagers who need hours for school, any time they volunteer with us can count towards their goal...even virtually.
