Celebrating our Home from Home!
Earth Day festivities may have been canceled this year, but this Earth Day will be the most memorable! Working from home and limiting the amount of time we spend outside has taken some getting used to, to say the least. However, it's the best way I can imagine celebrating both the health of our planet and the health of our families during this time. We can do this!

This month has been full of virtual Zoom calls, working from home, and finding creative ways to support each other. In this newsletter, I will highlight how we are supporting our Senior Cowboys, a few local businesses you should support this week, and an up close look at what service providers are facing during Covid-19.

I appreciate all the support in the last eight weeks as I am still gearing up to win Monterey County Supervisor this November. I encourage you to stay tuned as things begin to move forward. Please feel free to forward these newsletter updates to friends and family or share on your social media.

Stay safe. Stay well.

Happy Earth Day!
For nearly (15) years I have hosted a *zero waste* Chamber of Commerce Mixer to celebrate our planet. This year's event was cancelled, but the McShane Family still took a day to observe nature with a walk through beautiful Fort Ord.

Whether it was in your garden at home, in your sunny backyard with your family, or on a nature walk- I hope you were able to enjoy this Earth Day in a way that celebrates this incredible planet we live on.

Antibody Testing
I was *tested* for COVID-19 via antibody blood draw to determine exposure last week. It was a drive-up and an easy 10 minute draw.

Arcpoint Labs services the region & appointments can be scheduled at  labtestmonterey.com .
Small Business Relief
The Salinas City Councilmembers unanimously approved a relief program for small businesses that did not receive assistance through the Cares Act. All small business owners need to be protected during these hard times and I am proud to have voted this evening to help do that.

Working with the County of Monterey, the City of Salinas launched a small business relief program with $1,000,000 in emergency assistance available. Please contact Lisa Brinton at 831-775-4239 or lisab@ci.Salinas.ca.us for more information.
Cowboy Strong!!
I feel bad for high school seniors and high school students missing the last months of the year.

Have you seen the Salinas High School signs around town? I'm delighted I could join a community effort to lift the spirits of just a few of the seniors that had their senior year wiped out due to these unprecedented times.

*Congratulations* Class of 2020 at Salinas High School!

The local newspaper did a great job to cover the project highlighting our effort. You can read more here:
Homeless and Social Services Facing COVID-19
COVID-19 Zoom Call Update
Recently we had a ZOOM Call on the topic of Homeless & Social Services in COVID-19. We had an incredible collection of service providers give a detailed account of what we're facing.

Small Business Highlights- Shop Small and Support local business!
I am proud to support local business with *dinner to go* from various restaurants this month. I encourage anyone else, who is able, to do the same.

I picked up tri-tip sandwiches, lumpia, fried artichokes and artichoke bisque (to die for) from the Flying Artichoke / Choke Coach at the Salinas Airport. Open M-F 11-3pm.

This week I also recommend a great take out experience at Stonies on South Main / Hwy. 68.
Exceptional tacos & some of the best guacamole I've ever had! The burger was fabulous. Things were on time & we ordered easy at  stoniestaphouse.com.

I also had incredible Mexican food via take-out from the very authentic Villa Azteca in Downtown Salinas. My son Patrick loves the cilantro rice and the guac & nopales were as good as I ever had! Great place to stop by to pick up dinner for the family.

Let's keep supporting small & local!
