For the first time since COVID, CAPTC's STI Clinical Training team conducted an in-person combined STI Update. We started with an engaging and informative half-day of didactic training on the latest developments in all things STI, which drew 284 attendees, 36 in-person and 248 virtual. This was followed by an experiential lab training where participants learned to interpret vaginal wet mounts for common causes of vaginitis. | |
CBA Team Awarded New 5-Year Grant | |
The CAPTC Capacity Building Assistance (CBA) team was awarded a new five-year CDC grant to provide national technical assistance to health departments and community-based organizations. To kick off the grant period, they hosted a meet-and-greet during the United States Conference on AIDS, fostering collaboration among CDC-funded CBAs. Additionally, the team held its first Community Advisory Board (CAB) meeting, bringing together diverse experts in HIV prevention and treatment to help shape topics and activities.

Building a Robust Training: Foundations of Public Health in California | |
CDPH partnered with CAPTC to create an engaging 11-module asynchronous course designed for all CDPH employees. Packed with dynamic videos and interactive content, the course delivers a comprehensive, multidisciplinary overview of public health in California. After the success of this initiative in 2024, we pleased to announce the development of a follow-up course focused on public health ethics, further fostering excellence in the field. | |
Training California's Disease Intervention Workforce | CAPTC is engaged with CDPH to strengthen disease intervention staff across California working on a variety of infectious diseases, including tuberculosis and measles. As part of this initiative, we developed and launched two impactful courses: Essential Interviewing Skills for Disease Intervention (EISDI) and Epidemiology 101, equipping professionals with critical tools to strengthen their efforts in combating infectious diseases statewide. | |
Increasing Access to Family Planning in California | |
CAPTC's team supports the Office of Family Planning's Family PACT program, a California statewide initiative to provide comprehensive family planning services. We held a series of dynamic webinars, drawing a live audience of 1,200 providers and 1,500 additional views online. Disease Intervention Virtual Award Show | |
The Disease Intervention Training Center (DITC) team received rave reviews for their first inaugural virtual award show recognizing disease intervention staff. The awards were distributed in honor of DIS Recognition Day in October 2024. DIS managers and supervisors in our region were invited to nominate their staff for Greatest of All Time (GOAT) awards in categories such as field safety, harm reduction, partner notification, and work with specific populations.
