A Word From Mark

Dear Friends,

Summer is in full swing, and our center team has been diligently working on events tailored to our survivors and their families. In June, we hosted a vibrant Summer Splash event that brought joy and connection to everyone involved. Complete with delicious food, engaging crafts, water games, and splash pads, the event was a fantastic success. It was heartwarming to see families come together, enjoy the activities, and create lasting memories.

This month, we are gearing up for our Back-to-School event, a crucial initiative to ensure that each of our families is well-prepared for the upcoming school year. We understand the importance of education and the confidence that comes with being ready for the first day of school. To support this, we will be providing new backpacks and essential school materials to our families. Additionally, our clothing boutique will be featured, giving survivors the opportunity to pick out clothes, shoes, and more to start the school year with a fresh wardrobe.

We are committed to making sure our survivors have all they need to thrive, not just during the summer but throughout the entire year. Your continual support has been instrumental in helping us achieve this goal. Every donation, volunteer hour, and word of encouragement makes a difference in the lives of those we serve. Together, we are building a stronger, more supportive community.

Thank you for being a vital part of our mission. Your generosity and dedication inspire us every day to strive for excellence in everything we do.

With appreciation,

Mark

Hannah's Story: Brave Journey to a New Home

Living off one income is hard, but for Hannah, she had gotten used to losing that income.  Her husband would constantly quit or be fired from his construction job, and he would either beg for his job back the next day or spend weeks looking for a new job. Each time he was looking for new work, Hannah would see him start to panic about not having enough money and start to become angry and violent, but as soon as he found another position he went back to his fun self who constantly took his kids out on weekend and spoiled them with gifts. The last time he lost his job resulted in 5 months of verbal and physical abuse, and Hannah promised herself she would not put herself or her children through that cycle again. So, when he came home to tell her he had lost his job yet again, Hannah had to make a choice. Bravely, she reached out to Radiant Futures’ helpline to learn how they could assist her and how to create a safety plan for herself and her children.

While her husband was out, she and her children fled to our emergency shelter. From the moment Hannah arrived at Radiant Futures, she worked closely with her housing advocate to discuss her short- and long-term goals and together, they set up a plan. Determined to create a better life for her family, she had been taking secondary education classes when she and her children left their home. She was happy and relieved to learn that she could continue attending online classes uninterrupted during this transitional period. Hannah knew, in the best interest of her children, she wanted to be in the area where they had lived so her children could stay enrolled at the same school they had been attending. Her advocate helped her with the application process for a housing voucher from a local housing authority, which would allow for that to happen.

Celebrating our Inaugural 52-Hour Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking Training Certification

"Your expertise and dedication were evident throughout the entire domestic violence & human trafficking advocacy training. Making complex concepts easily understandable and applicable to our daily work. The knowledge and insights you shared have already begun to positively influence my approach to specify tasks and responsibilities within my work, and I am confident they will continue to do so in the future."

-  Maria Shawki

Earlier this year, Radiant Futures proudly offered its inaugural combined 52-hour Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking Certification Training. Radiant Futures is proud to be the first organization in California to develop an innovative training program that combines the requirements of the 40-hour Domestic Violence Counselor Training and the 40-hour Human Trafficking Caseworker Training. As part of our education program, we are committed to equipping individuals with the necessary skills to help them effectively support survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. The training consists of the following themes: psychological and structural barriers for survivors, understanding clinical, and legal perspectives, resources, and building service provider resiliency.

Our training program not only provides essential knowledge but also creates a supportive community of learners dedicated to making a difference. We are excited to see the positive impact this training will have on our community and look forward to welcoming more participants in the future.

Join our next session starting August 20th. For more information, visit our website at https://radiantfutures.org/dvtraining/ or contact Stephanie Te’o at STeo@radiantfutures.org.
