Celebrating Fall at Kid Makers! On Nov 2, learn about circuits with local Robotics teams

Throughout the fall, we honor our community through a variety of cultural celebrations.


Hispanic Heritage Month ends soon, join us for our final Exploring the Flavors of Latin America series. Rice Revelations / Arroz y más Arroz is on Saturday, October 12 at 2pm.


Crafty Wednesday celebrates Filipino American History Month TODAY, October 9 at 3:30pm. And on October 23, drop by for a special craft in honor of Diwali. Crafty Wednesday is for children grades K-3.


To round off October, we have three Día de los Muertos programs:

FOR AND BY TEENS

Our Teen Takeover team invites you to a special all-ages program in the Family Place of the Downtown Library in honor of Filipino American History Month! On October 12, from 12-2pm, immerse yourself in the vibrant Filipino culture with a traditional dance performance and a Filipino cuisine demonstration by Chef Andrew Arceo. Teen Library Takeover provides small one-time grants to groups of teens in the Redwood City and North Fair Oaks communities for their Library program ideas.

Cañada College Workshops


Want to learn about transferring to a four-year university, career programs, financial aid, middle college, or dual enrollment? Join us at our Cañada College workshop series in the Teen Center. For ages 14 and up.

Girls Night Series


Join us at the teen center for a fun girls' night as we kick off our new girls series. This month, we’ll be getting creative with press-on nails. Don’t miss out—register now, as space is limited. For grades 6 through 12.

Children's book sale


Join us Saturday, October 19, 10am-1pm in the Family Place at the Downtown Library. It's a great time to stock up for your home, for the classroom, for a little free library, for Toys for Tots!


  • Children's books regularly 50 cents → 25 cents
  • Young readers/young adult books regularly 50 cents → 25 cents
  • Children's picture books → 50% off


Late summer honey has arrived!


Library honey is available to purchase online (with pick-up at the Friends Bookstore) or purchase while visiting the bookstore. The library bees have been busy. We received 28 cases of honey this week to sell! Library honey makes a great holiday gift! You can watch the honey bees live on the Downtown Library roof here.


October material donation event


Saturday, October 19 is the final drive-up, drop-off material donation event of 2024. The next after October will be January 2025.


Where: Two locations!

Location 1: 10am-12pm behind the Downtown Library, 1044 Middlefield Rd

Location 2: 10am-11:30am in the parking lot of Redwood Shores Branch Library, 399 Marine Pkwy

Wanted items: Books, CDs, DVDs in very good condition. Video games, puzzles, and vinyl records also accepted.


Please bring items in bags or boxes that you will leave. We look forward to seeing you!

Free Tenant/Landlord Virtual Workshops by Project Sentinel on October 15 & 17


Join Project Sentinel for virtual workshops next week, focusing on tenant and landlord information and resources in Redwood City. These sessions are free and open to everyone, with presentations available in both English and Spanish.

Neighborhood Trash Pickup on October 20


Join us on Sunday, October 20 for a community clean-up event at 3736 Florence St. Arrive at 9:30am for a morning of teamwork and fun, with trash pickup from 10 to 11am, followed by a free brunch from 11am to 12pm.
