Public Works Week: People, Purpose, Presence

If you follow the City of Cleveland Heights on social media, you will have seen this week's tribute to the City's hardworking Public Works Department, a series of posts made in celebration of National Public Works Week. Each day highlights individuals in Public Works' divisions of Street Repair, Vehicle Maintenance, Forestry, Sewer, and Refuse Collection, with a special message from Cleveland Heights Public Works Director, Collette Clinkscale. Thanks for tuning in, and our deepest appreciation to the men and women who keep things moving and improving in the Heights. Check out the City's Facebook and Instagram pages to see each day's post!

Deadline approaching for Exterior Repair grant

HRRC and the City of Cleveland Heights collaborated to make federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Exterior Maintenance grants available for Cleveland Heights residents. This grant is intended to help residents with necessary exterior home repairs, including driveways and garages. The ARPA Exterior Maintenance Grant is for qualified Cleveland Heights Homeowners with a household income at or below 120% Area Median Income.

To request an application for home repair, please complete HRRC's intake questionnaire, or call 216.381.6100 and select "0" when you hear the auto-attendant.

The intake questionnaire will close on May 26th. Applications will be emailed or mailed out in early June. Completing the questionnaire and/or application does not guarantee approval for a grant.

City to hold rescheduled public hearing for proposed zoning update on Places of Worship

The Mayor and staff from the Department of Planning, Neighborhoods & Development have launched the Livable Neighborhoods Initiative, which examines how our residential neighborhoods function from a zoning perspective.

The first component of that initiative examines Places of Worship and how the City’s current regulations do not reflect how people pray today. On March 7, in advance of introducing formal legislation, the Mayor presented to the public the opportunity to become familiar with the proposed changes and to provide informal comments. After seeking that input for approximately a month, the Mayor introduced formal legislation on April 7th in the form of Ordinance No. 055-2025. The Ordinance was referred to the Planning Commission, which voted at its May 14 meeting to recommend its passage to Council. Per the regulation of Chapter 1119, Council will be holding a public hearing on the Ordinance on Tuesday, May 27, at 6 pm in Council Chambers.

The potential changes and a summary and FAQ are posted on the City’s website. Anyone wishing to provide a comment can attend the public hearing and/or submit comment to City Council through the Clerk of Council.
