EMERALD ENSEMBLE CONCERT – BYRD & HOWELLS Tuesday, May 14 at 7:30pm, the Emerald Ensemble presents two great works by masters of English choral music. From the Renaissance comes William Byrd's Mass for five voices, a rarely performed gem. Herbert Howells's unaccompanied Requiem, written after the death of the composer's son, is a soothing staple of twentieth-century choral repertoire. Information, www.emeraldensemble.org, where free St. James parishioner passes are available.

CARE FOR CREATION NEWS “We know that approximately a third of all food produced is discarded, and ‘whenever food is thrown out it is as if it were stolen from the table of the poor’” (Pope Francis, Laudato Si’). A few tips from the Michelin Guide to eat sustainably include cutting down on meat, prioritizing plant-based diets, saying no to straws, recycling food waste, cutting down on plastics, going organic, and eating mindfully.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL THANKS YOU We visited a resilient young woman who grew up in the foster care system. For a time she experienced homelessness, then lived at a shelter before moving into permanent housing. The woman worked several part-time jobs but lost one job with steady hours when a change in management resulted in letting many employees go. Finding herself short of income and wanting to keep her housing, this neighbor called the St. Vincent de Paul Helpline (206-767-6449 or online .https://svdpseattle.org/get-help/online-help-request-form/). With your help, rental assistance was given. We encouraged the young woman to apply for unemployment. Before we ended our visit, she told us of a promising job lead that gave her hope. Information, Jo Ann Wiesner, 206-291-4012 or wiesnerjo@gmail.com.
