Hi Neighbors,
The Family Fall Festival at Lake Cunningham brought together hundreds of our neighbors, and it was just the beginning of the seasonal festivities. Over the next few weeks, we have the opportunity to come together as a community, honoring the rich cultural diversity that makes our district so special.
This season, we celebrate Halloween's spooky fun, the radiant lights of Diwali, and the honoring of our ancestors during Dia de los Muertos.
As we gather with our loved ones to celebrate these occasions, let us take pride in the traditions that connect us and safely take part in the festivities to ensure a fun and memorable experience.
If you're going trick-or-treating, please take steps to stay visible to drivers by carrying glow sticks or flashlights. Additionally, always use traffic signals and crosswalks, and look both ways before crossing.
Join me for a Dia de los Muertos Celebration at the Evergreen Village Square on Friday, November 1st at 5:30pm. Whether you're familiar with the Latin American holiday or learning about it for the first time, bring your family and friends for an evening of arts & crafts and a FREE movie showing of the family-favorite 'Coco'!
Lastly, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to to our fiscal sponsors and community partners who help make our events at Evergreen Village Square possible: Shapell Properties, Reyes Coca-Cola, and the District 8 Community Roundtable!
Best,

1,000+ Miles of Roads Paved!
Our Department of Transportation has successfully paved 1,000 miles of road since 2019!
During my time with State Senator Jim Beall, I worked to bring SB 1, the Road Repair & Accountability Act, to fruition and it feels like a full circle moment to see that our celebration of 1,000 miles completed comes from a portion of that funding.
Achievements like these would not be possible without the voters who approved Measure A devoted to specified public transit capital improvement projects and operations.

City Hall Update
City Council Approves Paul Joseph as the new San José Police Chief
After a nationwide recruitment, the City Council has confirmed Paul Joseph as San José’s new Chief of Police.
Chief Joseph brings over 30 years of law enforcement experience. Chief Joseph has served as Acting Chief of Police since former Chief Anthony Mata’s retirement on March 31, 2024. He will officially start as the permanent Chief of Police on October 28, 2024.
Chief Joseph’s confirmation comes after a rigorous recruitment process. Community engagement was an integral and important part of that process. The City used a variety of outreach and engagement methods to seek input from community members and other key stakeholders. Those methods included a citywide anonymous online survey, six community meetings, key stakeholder focus groups and one-on-one sessions, a Police Department employee anonymous online survey and six meetings, and Mayor and City Council meetings.

I'm excited to share that the repaving on San Felipe Road has been completed!
Along with resurfacing, road markings, like crosswalks, are improved. This makes the lines brighter and more visible to drivers, improving the quality of life for everyone.
Several major and local streets are still scheduled for maintenance in 2025. Please view the GIS Pavement Projects Storymap for all updates and information.
