"Today is the Feast of the Epiphany. On this particular day and at this particular moment, even as our nation's capital is being endangered and assaulted, we pray that God and his way of love might prevail in all of our hearts."

This Sunday, we will offer “walk-up communion” between 12–1 pm outside the chapel door. Ginny will provide communion bread, blessed during the online Feast of the Epiphany service, in bags that can be consumed in your home or car. Please wear a mask and socially distance. We will also distribute chalk for anyone who wants to participate in the tradition of chalking your door.
Chalking Your Door and Blessing Your Home
After Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem, three Magi from the East came to worship Christ and bring him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. We celebrate their journey on Epiphany (also called Theophany, Twelfth Night, or Three Kings), the oldest feast day recorded in the Church. On Epiphany, it is traditional for families to bless their homes, remembering the hospitality of the Holy Family to the Wise Men, by “chalking the doors,” a centuries-old practice that dedicates our homes to God. To bless your home, you can use a piece of chalk to mark the door or threshold with the inscription:
20 + C + M + B + 21.
The 20 represents last year and 21 represents the current year. The + reminds us of the cross of Christ. The C, M, and B stand for the traditional names of the Magi—Caspar, Melchior, and Bathasar—as well as an abbreviation for the Latin phrase “Christus mansionem benedicat” which means “Christ bless this house.” You can use the prayer found here.
