Celebrating the Summer Solstice with the Wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Happy Summer Solstice! ☀️

Today marks the longest day of the year and the height of Yang energy—a time of warmth, vitality and connection. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), summer corresponds to the Fire element and is ruled by the Heart, which governs circulation, joy, sleep and the spirit (Shen).

As we embrace the sun’s fullest expression, we’re also invited to nurture our inner flame—balancing activity with rest, excitement with calm and outward connection with inward care.

🌿 Summer Solstice TCM Tips:

  • Stay Cool & Hydrated: Eat naturally cooling foods like watermelon, cucumber, mint, mung beans and leafy greens.
  • Nourish the Heart: Laugh, connect with others and spend time doing things that bring you joy. (Click HERE to read our blog post on heart health).
  • Sleep Matters: Go to bed a little earlier than usual to offset the high Yang energy and protect your Heart.
  • Move Mindfully: Take advantage of longer days with gentle exercise like morning walks, tai chi or swimming.

As the sun reaches its peak, take a moment to check in with your own energy. Are you shining too brightly without rest? Or could you open more fully to joy and connection?

Wishing you balance, radiance and heartful health this season.

Featured Acupuncture Point: HT-7 (Shenmen - “Spirit Gate”)

Located on the inner wrist, Heart 7 is a key point to calm the mind, nourish the Heart, and support restful sleep. It's especially helpful during the height of summer when heat and overactivity can lead to restlessness or anxiety.

Whether you're having trouble winding down at night or feeling emotionally overstimulated, HT-7 can help open the Spirit Gate and restore inner peace.
