Creation Care at St. Paul’s
Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at 7:00 p.m.
Location: Guild Room

Last year a group of members of St. Paul’s gathered to discuss the marvelous book “Saving Us” by renowned climate scientist Katherine Hayhoe. It takes an honest look at climate change but argues for a gentler approach to opponents, using kindness, listening, and finding common ground instead of screaming and threats. We had a wonderful series of discussions.

On the 21st we want to regather to see where each of us is in our journey, and we want to welcome others who wish to explore how we at St. Paul’s can engage in Creation Care.

An upcoming project we have is to "green" the church landscape, gradually applying non-invasive and xeriscaping techniques to parts of the campus. We recently completed a survey of all the plantings on campus and were pleasantly surprised to see just how much native material is used.

Shelly Zachs, the co-founder and chair of the Board of the Delray Beach Children’s Garden, will join us at the meeting and talk to us about how the Garden teaches and exemplifies the principles of sustainable gardening.

We hope you will join us.

ChurchNext Becoming Beloved Community
Concludes Sunday, March 12, at 11:30 a.m.
Location: Guild room

This introductory course explores systemic racism in the United States and in the Church and begins a conversation about what the Episcopal Church is currently doing to live more into our inclusive values. It offers clear guidance on learning from this history and building toward what Presiding Bishop Michael Curry describes as “the Beloved Community of God.”  The curriculum centers around short videos to be watched as a group followed by guided conversation. They include:

  • Feb. 5: Race, Privilege, and Beloved Community
  • Feb. 12: Building a Firm Foundation (provides a brief history of the creation of the U.S. and systemic racism)
  • Feb. 19: Systemic Racism in the U.S. (focuses on 1924-present)
  • Feb. 26: Race and the Episcopal Church
  • March 5: Racial Reconciliation and Personal Empowerment
  • March 12: Actively Building Beloved Community

Please join for any or all of these important discussions!
French! Spanish!! Italian!!! With Dorsey Salerno

Are you planning a trip to Europe this summer and want to rev up your high school foreign language? Do you have a middle, or high school student who wants to go to the next level in their foreign language? Or perhaps you want to keep your brain sharp by learning a new language. I'm here for you, in French, Spanish or Italian!

I taught French and Latin for ten years in Chappaqua, New York and have been tutoring the above languages, (yes, on the telephone by face time or on Zoom) ever since. I love teaching one-on-one and I love my students. (I've been told they think the lessons are easy and fun.)

St. Paul's Church will benefit from your experience. Sign up for a package of five lessons at $10.00 a lesson (one hour), helping yourself and St. Paul's at the same time. Students new to the language receive their first book, gratis.

For further information call Dorsey Salerno at 561-676-1076.

Everywhere is feeling the impacts of a warming planet - even West Texas

If you were following my reports from COP27 in November, you might have seen me wearing a dress from the House of Tammam that showed how global temperature has changed over time. The “Warming Stripes,” as they’re called, are the creation of my colleague Ed Hawkins from the University of Reading. A blue stripe indicates a cooler than average year, and a red stripe indicates a warmer than average one.

I’m not the only one wearing these stripes to raise awareness of how the world is warming. The Reading Football Club now features red and blue “warming stripes” on the sleeves of this season’s uniforms, which also happen to be made from recycled plastic bottles. “The climate stripes are intended to start conversations about climate change - and making them visible to thousands of football fans across the country every week brings that to a new audience,” Ed said.

Faithful Giving

Please help us to keep our mission and ministry strong. St. Paul's staff, operations, community outreach, and our missions to help the most vulnerable are dependent on Sunday offerings to keep afloat. When Sunday offerings decrease, our missions become at risk.

Safe and secure online giving on our website - St. Paul's has a safe and secure electronic donation service available allowing you to make single donations or set up recurring donations. Click the button below to visit our donation page:
Mail -  If you prefer to send your pledge or other donation by check, please send your contribution to: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 188 S. Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33444.
Strengthening Ministries for Tomorrow’s Faithful

To ensure that the work of St. Paul’s lives on, remember St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in your estate planning. With a gift in your will, trust, or in some other way, you can make a lasting impact on those served through the mission and ministry of St. Paul’s.

One sentence in your will can make a lasting difference to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. To leave a gift in your will, simply share this sentence with your attorney or financial planner:

“I hereby bequeath to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Delray Beach, FL, the sum of $ (or % of my estate) to support its mission and ministry (or to the Legacy Fund of the Endowment Fund.)”

To talk with a member of the Endowment Fund Board about how you can continue to support the mission and ministry of St. Paul’s with a legacy gift, please contact Caren Kilpatrick, our Parish Administrator, at 561-276-4541 or caren@stpaulsdelray.org.
