March marks Women in History Month, and here at LUM, we're taking the opportunity to celebrate the incredible contributions and impact of the Women of LUM, who lead, care, give, and serve in our community. From the early 1950s to the present day, countless women have left their mark through their involvement with LUM. By tackling basic human needs and uplifting the people of Greater Lafayette, women have played a vital role in the success of LUM for more than five decades.
LUM invites you to join us in recognizing and honoring the achievements of these remarkable women. Be sure to stay tuned for more celebrations in the weeks ahead as LUM continues to highlight the significant contributions of the hundreds of women who engage with LUM each year. Together, we celebrate their dedication and impact on our community. To find out who's featured above, click HERE.

IC Focus of the Week - Work Permits
|
|
Work Permits enable refugees, asylum grantees, people with Temporary Protected Status, green card applicants, DACA recipients, and spouses of certain visa holders to legally obtain employment so that they can support themselves and their families.
In 2023, the LUM Immigration Clinic helped 19 people apply for work permits. That is 19 people, living here legally, who now are able to earn money and contribute to the economy rather than being forced to seek assistance in order to survive.
Mauricio and his son, Luis, came to the LUM Immigration Clinic after fleeing political violence in Venezuela. They were able to enter the US legally through the humanitarian parole program, but the rest of their family are living in Columbia. Mauricio and Luis were desperate to get work permits so that they could begin earning money to send back to their loved ones.
The LUM Immigration Clinic worked with them to file the proper paperwork, and they are now waiting for the approval of their work permits so that they will be able to find jobs and help their family start a new life.

LUM After School Program Needs Snacks!
|
|
LUM relies on the generosity of donors to sustain the LUM After School Program, which serve as crucial resources for the educational and nutritional needs of children in our community. Among the most valued donations are healthy snacks, providing essential nourishment to support the students' growth and learning. Fresh fruit, yogurt cups, and granola bars are just a few examples of items that help fuel young minds and bodies during after-school sessions.
In addition to snacks, donations of cleaning supplies and basic necessities like toilet paper and disinfectant wipes are welcome as well. Whether you choose to contribute healthy snacks, cleaning supplies, or other needed items, your generosity helps create a nurturing and supportive environment where children can thrive academically and socially. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of the students and families served by the LUM After School Program.
