The annual vote to adopt the 2022-2023 New Rochelle Public Library budget and to elect one New Rochelle Public Library trustee will take place on Tuesday, May 17, from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm, at the city’s school district polling places.

Celebrating Haiti

May 18 is Haitian Flag Day, which celebrates the creation of the Haitian flag and the revolution that gained their freedom from France. Borrow one of these books to learn more about this inspiring island nation, or stop by the first floor to browse our collection. Or try fiction written by one of Haiti’s noted authors including Edwidge Danticat who lived in New Rochelle at one time, and was often seen at NRPL.

End your day with a relaxing mindfulness meditation. This virtual program, Thursdays, May 12, 19 and 26, 7:00 pm, will introduce you to the basics of mindful breathing to promote rest, repose and renewal , and techniques to promote restful sleep. Registration required

Before Co-op City, There Was Freedomland

Join us in person or virtually on Saturday, May 14, 2:00 pm for an information-filled, historical presentation about Freedomland U.S.A., an American history theme park located in the Bronx on the site where Co-op City is now located.

Sound Shore Chorale Spring Celebration Concert

The Sound Shore Chorale will present its “Spring Celebration Concert” on Sunday, May 15, 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Under the direction of Richard Slade, the talented group of professional and amateur vocalists will perform a menu of uplifting choral classics including the music of Purcell, Pachabel and works by other masters. Sing Your Heart Out Workshop Returns

Music maestro Robert Puleo returns to NRPL to lead the Spring session of the “Sing Your Heart Out!” Workshop. Under Robert's leadership, participants will attain the confidence required to sing, and--most importantly--how to have fun throughout the entire 'learning to sing' process! Rehearsals begin Monday, May 16. Learn more and register.

In Observance of Asian American Pacific Islander Month.. 

Join us on Wednesday, May 18, 7:00 pm for this virtual program about Manzanar National Historic Site. Manzanar War Relocation Center was one of ten camps where the US government incarcerated Japanese-American citizens during WWll. A park ranger will discuss the experiences of the detainees. Calling All Future Scientists and Engineers!

Children in grades 3 to 5 will engage in fun STEAM activities and experiments, using problem-solving skills and the scientific method to theorize and test outcomes in a supportive and friendly environment. A Look Back..

Happy Birthday, Peter Rabbit! At this week's Preschool Story Time at HCL, we celebrated the 120th birthday of Peter Rabbit! We wore rabbit ears, heard the story of Peter and his sisters, and decorated a rabbit necklace.

Free Covid-19 Test Kits at NRPL

The Library continues to give out free at-home Covid-19 test kits. Patrons may receive up to 4 test kits by visiting the first floor information desk during regular library hours. Kits will be distributed as long as supplies last.

Our Children, Our Artists is Back at NRPL

After a two year hiatus due to the pandemic, the 39th annual Our Children, Our Artists exhibit is on view in the Lumen Winter Gallery. It was a packed house and joyous crowd for the elementary school awards ceremony which took place Wednesday, May 11; the young artists' work will be up through May 15. Middle and high school students' art will be exhibited May 20 through June 2, and the awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 25, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 pm

We said goodbye to our water fountains and installed new water bottle filling stations - one in the Children's room (on the first floor) and one by each elevator bank on the second and third floors. 


Get a FREE I LOVE NRPL sticker (while supplies last) for your reusable water bottle by emailing communityrelations@nrpl.org, with your name and zip code. Pick up your sticker at the information desk on the first floor, three business days after submitting your request.
