International Women's Day!

Four direct experiences from South Sudan:

the impact of Solidarity projects on the women's lives

From SAP - Riimenze

"I did not go to school, but I am working hard to see that my grandchildren will have the opportunity to go to school. I have worked in the Solidarity with South Sudan Agricultural farm as a regular casual worker to get money in order to pay school fees, buy school uniforms, buy food and at the same time maintain my household".

Agnes

From STTC - Yambio

"Women teachers overcome gender discrimination: I had to fight against gender discrimination to realise my noble dream. I appreciate my experience at the Solidarity Teacher Training College for modeling peaceful coexistence. People from many tribes come there to study and they become your friends. That helps build peace”.

From CHTI - Wau

β€œWhen I reach CHTI, I learned that the number of midwives, especially in Wau, are very few, but most students were signing up to become nurses. I discussed this with Sister Leema Rose Savarimuthu, the CHTI Principal. And she allowed me to join the midwifery program. Since I switched, I’ve been impressed with the role of the midwife. Saving two lives at the same time is a wonderful thing.”

Rosalyn Edwards Anthony

From the Pastoral Team

"My role as a woman of faith is to stand with people and assist if and when they ask for help. I've been professionally trained in counseling and social psychology in Europe. This allowed me to reflect on my own journey as an African woman in a male-dominated society. I've been privileged to listen to women as they seek to claim their own voice and dignity, against inhuman odds".

Sr Scholasticah, Solidarity member
