Celebration

On Thursday, August 17, at 6:00 p.m., we celebrated with Krystal and Nyla the completion of their new home. Many friends, families, and community members joined us as we kicked off the next chapter in their lives. Check out some photos from the celebration here -https://ow.ly/hn7y50PCuWk.

Ways to Support Habitat

Our 5-home STAR project in Ashland is moving along and we need your help! Site work began last week so that we can begin construction by January. We have identified the families that will live in these homes, which includes 6 adults and 14 children. Please consider becoming a financial supporter of this project to help make it a reality. Learn more online.

Charred Hanover will be holding a fundraiser for Hanover and King William Habitat for Humanity every Monday in October. For every burger sold on October 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m., Charred will donate $2.00 to HKW Habitat. A representative of Habitat will be there from 5-7 p.m. each Monday. Stop by at lunch or dinner and order a delicious burger and support your local Habitat!

Join us in turning cans into cash! We have started another Recycling Competition Grant through Novelis from September through November! Please drop your aluminum cans off at our ReStore.

During the last Novelis Can Competition (between May and November,) we collected 3,041 pounds of aluminum, bringing in $1,560. Novelis will grant us $3,000 based on our participation and the amount of pounds collected. Thank you!

During World Habitat Day, we want to draw attention to the important role decent housing plays in eliminating barriers to a better, healthier, more financially stable life. For World Habitat Day, consider making a financial donation to support local efforts in providing more affordable housing options.

The Board of Supervisors has a public hearing on September 13 at 6:00 p.m. We encourage Hanover County residents to engage in this final stage of the Comprehensive Plan update to continue to advocate for specific measures that will increase access to affordable housing in the county. Visit www.envisionhanover.com for more information on the Comprehensive Plan.

Examples of how localities can take an action-oriented approach to affordable housing can be seen in this article we recently shared.

What are you doing on October 12? How about buying a ticket to the "Wish You Were Here" Variety Show at the Ashland Theatre? Advanced tickets are $10 online and a portion of the ticket sales goes to us and our STAR project in Ashland. We hope you can attend!
