Cell Tower Construction

Picture Rocks

Seguro National Park West

Pima County Planning and Zoning Meeting

October 30th!

A Pima County Planning and Zoning meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 30th at 9:00 am, to review the conditional use permit, agenda item 7. P24CU00007, as requested by Vertical Bridge, for the construction of a new 80-foot cell tower on the outskirts of Saguaro National Park West.

As reviewed in last week’s LDA newsletter, there is no community need for this tower since the area already has 100% coverage. It only benefits the developers. Let’s help the Picture Rocks community stop this tower by attending the PCP Zoning meeting in person or on-line or writing letters as outlined below.

How You Can Help:

1.) Attend the 10/30/24 Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting in person or on-line. No need to speak. Just show up!

  • On-line option 2: Utilize the call-in number: 1-602-649-0382 and Participation Code: 927 937 612# Click here for Agenda. It outlines exactly what you need to do.

 2.) Write a brief letter

Help stop this tower from being constructed. Protect our precious Saguaro National Park West, its wildlife, and the residents of Picture Rocks.

AZ Youth Climate Coalition
Seeking Support for Student Initiated Climate Action Resolution

For the past 16 months, The AZ Youth Climate Coalition (AZYCC), a collaborative, youth-led organization fighting for climate justice across the Grand Canyon State, has been working with the Tucson Unified School District, the largest school district in Southern Arizona, to develop and pass a climate action resolution.

This resolution, written, researched, and lobbied for by students aged 13-20,

commits the entire district to net-zero emissions across all three scopes of emissions by 2040, and includes measures for clean energy, energy efficiency, water usage, electrified transport, heat adaptation, climate education, and more. Click here to learn more about this comprehensive resolution.

ACTION STEP!

Sign the AZYCC Letter of Support.

There is a TUSD Governing Board vote on this resolution next Tuesday, October 29th -- if adopted, it would be the most comprehensive climate action resolution in the country. The AZYCC is asking everyone to sign their Letter of Support, to show the community and the TUSD Governing board we not only support this resolution but also the impressive leadership, commitment and hard work our students have shown by leading the efforts of this groundbreaking resolution.

Additional Action!

If you are interested in taking additional action -- sending an email of support or showing up in-person for public comment, please contact Ojas Sanghi, Tucson Co-Lead at ojas@azyouthclimate.org

The AZYCC wants to thank you in advance for signing their letter and supporting their efforts as they help enact climate action!

Please sign the letter of support then share this message with family, friends and other community organizations.

Let's all support this student lead initiative!

SSSR Hosting Information Booth

at

Empire Ranch

Cowboy Festival

November 2nd and 3rd from 10:00am – 4:00pm

Going to this year’s Empire Ranch Cowboy Festival? If so, make sure to stop by the Save the Scenic Santa Ritas (SSSR) information booth.

SSSR members will be available to provide information and answer questions about the Copper World, Hudbay open pit mine. A great way to learn about this disastrous project first-hand and how you can help prevent this project from being approved.

It also offers an opportunity for you to thank the SSSR for their leadership and downright doggedness as they pursue options to protect the Santa Ritas Mountains and surrounding communities from the short and long-term negative effects of this project.

Oh, and let's not forget all the fun activities the festival offers, such as:

  • Ranch Life exhibits
  • Horsemanship demonstrations
  • Trail Rides
  • Kids activities
  • Western Music Entertainment
  • Lots of great food
  • And more!

A fun and informative day for the entire family!
