A new state certification for the Conowingo Dam will come with conditions - targeting a substantial cleanup, with aims toward protecting water quality behind the dam and downstream into the Chesapeake Bay. The Maryland Department of the Environment has issued its directives, seeing the dam cleanup as a major component to the multi-state approach toward Chesapeake Bay restoration.
