We purposely kept this workshop small to allow our 5 students plenty of time to workshop their songs with Music Director, Dean Fransen.
Destiny, one of our student shares: "Music is a stress reliever for me. I’ve always had music in my life. Me…when I write, I write what I feel - I put my emotions down on paper. [Before this workshop] I performed for some of my friends - but that’s really it."
Stephanie, a fellow student, has been in choir since she was in elementary school. Now in High School and part of Peekskill City Singers, she will be taking part in our Celtic Joy concert! One of her most memorable experiences has been performing with the Daisy Jopling Band at the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater. “I didn’t know that I could ever do that…we could ever sing with someone like Daisy in such a huge concert.”
Both Stephanie & Destiny share an interest in pursuing music as a career, either in entertainment or education. We are so excited to see how they grow their voice and share it with the world. Special thanks to Kevin Larsen, Peekskill High School Choral Director, for introducing Stephanie and Destiny to our Songwriting Workshop.

Kathryn, a Berklee College of music student and a fellow workshop participant, shares her "why" for choosing music education as a career:
"I had 1 [music camp] student who basically never sang in front of anyone before. At 10 years old, he had a concert solo. He was an amazing singer and his family had never heard him sing. When he first came to the camp, he was so shy. it took him a while to open up. Once he did…I was really proud of him. [I let him know] he had come such a long way and I was so glad he felt confident enough to solo. His family came up to me and said, “Wow, we’ve never heard him sing before. This is the first time!" It made me really happy that me and his classmates could really help him build the confidence to solo. We made sure [beforehand] he was comfortable enough doing that and that he wanted to do it - we didn’t pressure him. It felt really good I was able to help make that happen. And, now he was wants to do music…"
