CenCal Health Staff Successfully Completed the 2017 National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) HEDIS Compliance Audit

CenCal Health is proud to report our HEDISĀ® [1] 2017 quality of care evaluation, which assesses our health plan's compliance with preventive care screenings and other quality measures. This year was CenCal Health's best performance since first reporting HEDIS over 15 years ago!

Overall, fourteen aspects of care ranked in the top 10th percentile for Medicaid health plans nationally, an increase from nine in the previous year.
  • Both counties surpassed high performance levels in A1c control; A1c < 8%; diabetic eye exams; counseling for nutrition and physical activity for children and adolescents; and prenatal care timeliness.
  • In Santa Barbara, excellent results were also achieved in asthma medication ratio and postpartum care.

Camp Wheez Benefits Children with Asthma

Camp Wheez is a day camp in Santa Barbara for children with asthma and this year the camp was held August 7-12. The camp is for children ages 6 - 12 years old, and provides kids with fun camp activities while they learn about asthma. The program is sponsored by Sansum Clinic and is free of charge. It occurs annually and is always a big success.

CenCal Health is proud to help sponsor Camp Mariposas as part of our efforts to improve the health and well-being of people on the Central Coast.

On September 12, 1983, CenCal Health (operating then as the Santa Barbara Regional Health Authority) began operations and assumed responsibility for Medi-Cal in Santa Barbara County. We grew throughout the years, assuming responsibility for the Medi-Cal program in San Luis Obispo in 2008. Today we serve about 180,000 members between the Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties.

Known as the local community health plan, we are committed to making a difference here on the Central Coast while living and working in the community we serve. We provide a safety net for those whose circumstances may prevent affording health insurance or medical care. The benefits that we offer cover a broad spectrum of medical needs, including preventive care, pregnancy, mental health and long-term care. We thank our providers, members and staff for making CenCal Health what we are today. Happy 34th Anniversary CenCal Health!

Come and Join the Santa Barbara Care Coordination Coalition

CenCal Health in collaboration with our community partners has organized the Santa Barbara Care Coordination Coalition.

The goal of this group is to bring various community based organizations, providers, county representatives and other service agencies together, to better coordinate care across the healthcare continuum. The topics of focus are mental health, substance abuse, homelessness and housing, education and resources, transitional care and data collection.

The meetings are held every other month on the third Thursday of the month at the Hotel Corque in Solvang. We encourage our community partners to join this dynamic group of dedicated individuals in meeting to bring about new programs, processes and opportunities for collaboration.

For more information, please contact Nicole Bennett, Community Outreach Coordinator at (805) 541-7097.
