From Aurora to Elgin - Making Sure that Everyone in Kane County Counts
The Cities of Aurora and Elgin will be reminding their communities, and Kane County from north to south, to get counted for the 2020 Census effort by holding car caravans that will meet up for a special event on July 15th.
Local car caravans will be held in each city beginning at
11:30 am
. Elgin's will commence at the old Library parking lot (200 Grove)
and drive through some of the city's east side neighborhoods.
After both cities' local activities, all caravan participants will come together at 1 pm for music and surprises at the Fox Valley Ice Arena, 1996 S. Kirk Road, Geneva. (The rain date for the event is July 17.) Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin and Elgin Mayor David Kaptain are scheduled to talk about the importance of the Census. Please click here to watch
Mayor Kaptain talk about the importance of the Census at last Wednesday's City Council Meeting at the 1:41 mark.
Because of COVID-19, the deadline to complete the Census has been extended through October, 2020. The Census is critical for determining democratic representation, federal funding and more. Experts estimate that each individual counted represents $1,500 in annual federal funding into our community.
Elgin is currently 69% counted and Kane County is 72.9% counted.
