Census Deadline Extended at Least a Week! *
Some back and forth between the federal judicial and executive branches has brought confusion on when the deadline to fill out the 2020 Census is, but residents will have at least another week to complete it, until Oct. 5. A federal judge had reinstated the original Oct. 31 date to till out the census, but the Census Bureau then announced that the "target date" to stop receiving census submissions was next week. Don't wait any longer, fill it out now!
As providers, you are in a unique position to help direct families on filling out the census and informing them that it's safe, easy and important. Reach out to them this week and let them know it's their last chance. Remember, the individuals you serve are often those who will most benefit from an accurate census count.

Literacy on Point: Sharpening Skills in Assessments and Lesson Planning *
Join on Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. to ask questions about virtually administering the ORF and MAZE assessments. In this session, REP coaches will offer support and encourage YAS providers to share their experiences. Additionally, ideas on how to keep children engaged and learning through lively lessons will be shared. REP will provide a template lesson plan and support attendees in creating exciting and meaningful lessons.
Strategies for Efficient, Effective, and Exciting After-School Programming *
Join on Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. to celebrate and highlight recent YAS in-person and virtual programming successes and problem-solve challenges through discussion and resource sharing with other YAS community members. Connecting with fellow Trust funded providers is a great way to learn tips and tools to keep growing. Leave with practical tools to help you and your children succeed!

America Reads – Free Literary Support Staff for K-5 Providers
The Children’s Trust is collaborating with Miami Dade College America Reads program to provide free literacy tutors to K-5 providers who meet the following criteria:
- Provider has their own literacy curriculum and will train and support tutors.
- Provider has children who need tutoring in reading/literacy (in pre-K through 3rd grade range).
- Provider has staff who can supervise Miami Dade College tutors (virtually; and later on-site when in-person is the norm).
- Provider can commit to regular communication by email/phone to verify hours worked and provide information on tutor progress.
- Provider will work with college student schedules and provide 15-25 hours of work each week.
- Provider will be responsible for interviewing and selecting tutors and securing required background checks. (All MDC tutors have Level 1 background clearance already).
- Miami Dade College has 40+ tutors to place.

Virtual SPARK Training Available
The Children's Trust is sponsoring SPARK (Sports, Play, and Active Recreation for Kids) training that will be provided virtually in October. These trainings will be for contracted Youth Development K-5 providers using SPARK curriculum for fitness. Please limit registrations to two staff per agency per training.

- Look for the 2020-2021 Literacy Outcome Assessment: Oral Reading Fluency (ORF) course on Trust Academy.

In-Home Positive Parenting Program *
The Federation of Families is offering the Triple P Parenting Program for parents with children who have mild to moderate behavioral issues and are under the age of 12 years old. The Program consists of 10 free, 1 hour, parenting sessions with a Triple P Parent Educator from the Federation of Families. Parents will learn and practice the skills necessary to tackle behavioral challenges with various strategies implemented from the evidence based Triple P curriculum.

Life Coaches for Youth to Help Transition to Independence *
The Federation of Families is offering youth and young adults, ages 14-21, access to a Transition to Independence program that provides a life coach that will provide a mental health diagnosis to identify obstacles to living independently, obtaining employment, education, and in developing supportive social and recreational activities. The program is free, evidence based, and will provide a lasting support system to the young adults.

The Institute for Child and Family Health (ICFH) provides mental health services including Individual/family therapy and psychiatry for children and adolescents in Miami-Dade County. The institute accepts most Medicaid HMO’s and has funding for children of low-income families who do not have insurance. ICFH also provides individual/family therapy and psychiatry services for adults who have Medicaid.

The Catholic Charities of The Archdiocese of Miami, Inc. is looking for an individual that will be responsible for the training and oversight of counseling services at the program. This is an exempt position that works in conjunction at the program using a multidisciplinary approach for the provision of services.
Candidates must have a Master's Degree in Social Work and two years of post-graduate direct service delivery experience or; Master’s Degree or a PHD in Psychology, Sociology, or other relevant Behavioral Science in which clinical experience is a program requirement plus 2 years of Postgraduate direct service delivery experience or; Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of clinical employment experience in the behavioral science. Must have supervisory experience and be licensed to provide clinical services in the state of Florida. Licensure, and supervisory experience are required.
