September 12, 2019

Dear Friends,

We are currently 202 days away from National Census Day on April 1, 2020. As some of you may know Prince George's County Council passed CR-35-2018 in support of a Complete Count Committee. This committee is an effort to educate and inform residents about the importance of Census data collection and encourage residents to act as ambassadors to reach hard-to count communities.

We need your help!
Please join me Saturday, September 21, 2019, from 10 am - 12:30 pm at the College Park Aviation Museum Operations Building for a Census Solutions Workshop and Ambassador Training. We will discuss volunteer opportunities, how to get engaged and become an ambassador to ensure our community is Census ready. There will be light refreshments. Please RSVP here

In 2010, Prince George's County had an estimated 2.3 percent under count rate, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. A large majority of District 3 has been identified as hard to count--the darker the area in the map below, the harder the area is to count.
Census impact on our community
Every resident who is not counted is a loss of $18,250 per person over a 10-year period. Statewide, that's a total of $26.6 billion over a 10-year period. Census data impacts government representation, county services including funding for the following: roads, schools, SNAP, CHIP, WIC, school lunches, community funding, future planning for transportation, housing, schools, emergency response teams, economic development and even job opportunities.

Why should you participate in the Census?
Residents should complete the census because it is safe, easy, and important.

Safe: Your personal information is confidential, including citizenship and other sensitive data, by law. Disclosure of personal data is subject to fine or imprisonment.

Important: Data from the census provides the basis for annually distributing more than $675 billion in federal funds which help fund our roads, schools, hospitals, Medicaid, and many other programs.

Easy: You can complete the census online, by phone, or by mail. You can respond in 13 different languages via phone or online.

How can you complete the Census?
Every household can respond online, by mail, or by phone. It takes no more than 10 minutes.

Can we count on you?
Please join us Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 10:00 am - 12:30 pm at the College Park Airport Operations Building (immediately next door to the museum).  This is a call to action for all of us to work together to ensure we have a Complete Count in District 3 in 2020!
As always, feel free to reach out to a member of my District 3 team or me if we can help you in any way. #onlytogether
