Dear Centenary Family,
This week, Stan Baker announced plans for his retirement. As you can imagine, this is a big surprise to us all.
We are all grateful for Stan’s 31 years of faithful and excellent service to Centenary as our choir director and organist. After last Sunday’s Service of Advent Lessons and Carols, I commented to several people that the quality of music we have enjoyed here at Centenary for so many years is on a par with many large United Methodist Churches, if not well above.
Stan’s official retirement date is Sunday, April 30. We look forward to journeying through Lent and Easter with Stan. And then, on April 30, we will remember and celebrate Stan’s many accomplishments here at Centenary. Our Staff-Parish Relations team will be working on these plans and will keep you posted as these develop.
Our Staff-Parish Relations team in conjunction with our Church Council will also begin the work of formulating a transition plan. Look for opportunities to share your hopes and dreams as we work through this change together.
We’ll have time in the weeks ahead to recall Stan’s contributions to Centenary in more vivid detail. In the meantime, pray for Stan during this transition in his life, share your best memories and express your gratitude when you see him, and pray for our congregation as we discern God’s will for our next steps in our worship life together.
Peace,
Matt
