This Week at Centenary
 

Sunday, December 16, The Third Sunday of Advent

Join us for Advent Lessons and Carols at both our services!

8:40 a.m.       Early Service
 10:00 a.m.        Sunday School
      11:00 a.m.       Traditional Worship
 
Join us for our Christmas Luncheon after the 11:00 a.m. worship service. The main dish will be provided but those attending are welcome to bring a side dish or dessert. Our new drama group, Theater on the Mount will perform!


 

Attached is a brochure about a District Leadership Training event scheduled for church leaders on  Sunday, January 13 , 2-5:30 p.m. at Woodlake UMC.  

There is one registration fee that covers an unlimited number from each church so we can have as many people as are interested attend.

          ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES!
 

Gifts that Count Cards: Feel free to stop by the table in the Fellowship Hall to buy a card in honor or memory of friends, family, or loved ones.
 
Walk-In Christmas Gift Giving: We will be collecting gifts for our Walk-Ins again for Christmas to be given out on Friday, December 21 . We are asking for items our guests might be able to use personally or to give as gifts. Suggestions for items are as follows: scarves, gloves, hats, socks, children's new books or small toys. Please remember, we want to give them gifts we would give to our own family. Gifts may be taken to the office. Thank you for your support of this important program.
 
Christmas Luncheon:  Join us on Sunday, December 16, 2018,
for our Centenary Christmas luncheon following the 11:00 a.m. worship service. The church will provide the meat, please bring sides and desserts. We will also watch the children give a special performance as well as a performance from our new formed theatre group! Hope to see you there!

10:30 P.M. Music for the Season
11:00 Christmas Eve Worship and Communion 

    

       There will be no Children's Sunday School classes on Sunday, December 23 and Sunday, December 30. 

    Pecan Sale
We still have pecans available if you want to get your order in before the holidays. The pecans that we have left are: 

6 bags of cinnamon
5 bags of dark chocolate
12 bags of halves
12 bags of large pieces

The next UMW Meeting will take place at Covenant Woods on Thursday, January 17, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be provided by Lila Irby (please note that this date is a change). RSVP to Leah Hundley or Susy Meyer. 

    The Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale

The Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale will present their winter season program which will include J.S. Bach's  Magnificat  along with James Whitbourn's  Missa Carolae . The  Magnificat  is the first large choral work that Bach composed after his appointment in Leipzig in the spring of 1723. The  Missa Carolae  is a contemporary work by British composer James Whitbourn, and reflects the artist's love of medieval musical language as it fuses American and English Christmas traditions. Ryan Tibbetts will conduct the singers and orchestra, and nationally-renowned organist Daniel Stipe will accompany and perform. The concerts are Friday, December 14 , at 7:30 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church in Richmond, and Sunday December 16 , at 3:00 pm. at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Ashland. The Hand Bell Choir will be rehearsing Tuesday evenings from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Hope to see you there!
 

The Praise Chorus 

PRAISE CHORUS: The Praise Chorus will be practicing the song "In the Bleak Midwinter," a version from Lee Covington's Mom's vault of music   and will sing and practice on Sunday, December 16 .

It's beginning to look a lot like Advent and the sanctuary is all lit up for the season! The bells are also polished and ready for their performances at the 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. services on Christmas Eve.
