This Sunday's sermon is entitled "Gifts Abound!" based on I Corinthians 12:12-31a.

We have an update to our weekly schedule. 
Mandy Porter will be working from home on Mondays and will be in the office Tuesdays through Fridays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Melissa Martinez will be in the office on Mondays from 
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 


The Centenary Young Adult Group will meet for a planning session this Sunday, January 27, at 10:00 a.m. Join us! 
Items for Charterhouse School Weekend 
Backpack Feeding Program

The Charterhouse School Backpack Program provides weekends meals for our families who may benefit from extra supports. Each week the students in our Applied Curriculum Culinary Program assemble the bags and distribute them to the students in the Backpack Program, this gives these students an opportunity to work on sorting, counting, and following a list of instructions, while also allowing them to give back to their fellow students. There will be boxes in the fellowship hall for donations. 

Chili Night - in an individual reusable grocery bag
 * 4 cans of Chili (vegetarian or meat and pop-top lids if possible)
 * 2 boxes of cornbread mix
 * 2 cans of vegetables
 * Juice boxes

Pasta Night - in an individual reusable grocery bag
* 4 boxes of pasta
* 3 cans of sauce
* 1 can of parmesan cheese
* 2 cans of vegetables
* Juice boxes

Taco Night - in an individual reusable grocery bag
* 3 taco shell meals
* 4 cans on beans (black, pinto, or refried)
* 3 packets of instant rice
* 1 jar of salsa or queso (plastic jar)
* Juice boxes Snacks - in an individual reusable grocery bag
* Individual Granola Bards
* Crackers with cheese or peanut butter
* Chips, Pretzels, Popcorn
* Trail Mix
* Peanut Butter and Jelly (plastic jar)

ANNOUNCEMENTS


Ministry Meeting for Reaching & Gathering Teams:
On  Saturday, February 2, there will be a ministry meeting for the Reaching & Gathering teams here at Centenary from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We hope to fellowship and map out the next few months of ministry together. Thank you to all who serve on these teams and to all who serve here at Centenary.

Gerontology Nurse Practitioner to Speak 
Sunday, February 3:
On  Sunday, February 3, we will be welcoming Donna Spainhour from St. Mary's Hospital who will be giving a presentation after the 11:00 a.m. service on recognizing the signs of Alzheimer's Disease. We hope you will join us for this informative presentation.

Handbell Choir Rehearsals:
The handbell choir rehearsals will resume on Tuesday, February 5, from 7 to 8:15 p.m. 

Women's Leadership Event in Richmond: 
Clergy and lay women are invited to a two-day event in Richmond, facilitated by the Rev. Dr. Margaret Kutz. As more and more women step into significant leadership roles, every woman is encouraged to consider her own unique opportunities to make a difference. The event will be Wednesday, February 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Wednesday, May 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The location will be at Bon Air UMC (1645 Buford Road, North Chesterfield, VA 23235). Cost is $75 which includes both dates and two lunches. To register and for more information, contact Kutz at  margkutz72@gmail.com.
 
An Altar Flower Liner is Missing!
We have 2 green heavy plastic liners for our weekly altar flowers and currently one is missing! Please check around at home and perhaps you have one that you borrowed to take flowers home. Our Bless My Sole Ministry is in need of white, men's tube-socks. Feel free to drop any donations off in the church office.




Join us on  Sunday, February 24 , at 12 p.m. in the fellowship hall for a lunch and learn lecture. There is a $5.00 admission fee to attend. Learn about the big archaeological discoveries made in Jamestown over the past 25 years and the 400-year commemoration of the 1st House of Burgesses and the 1st documented enslaved Africans. Historian presenter will be Justin Bates, Manager of Public Programs at the Historic Jamestown. Sign up on the bulletin board across from the kitchen.



Ten-Day British Landscapes Trip 
Featuring England, Scotland, and Wales

You are invited to join a travel group from Centenary and friends on a special planned trip by Collette Travel Group. The ten-day trip is scheduled for  September 19 - 28, 2019 . If you are interested, please sign up on the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board across from the kitchen and pick up a brochure.
 
We will have a meeting with Collette on Monday, February 25, at 6 p.m. at Centenary to discuss the trip. If you are interested in traveling with Centenary family members and friends, please plan to attend the Monday, February 25th meeting.

The Parade of Nations & Virginia International Tattoo in Norfolk- ". . . thrill to the dazzling extravaganza of music, ceremony and patriotism!"
 

Day Trip - Thursday, April 25, 2019 - YOU ARE INVITED!
 
Please register for a day trip to the  Parade of Nations & Virginia International Tattoo  on Thursday, April 25, 2019.  There are flyers on the bulletin board across from the kitchen.  The word "tattoo" evolved over time as it refers to what developed as a ceremonial performance of military music by massed bands and drill teams.  The Virginia International Tattoo incorporates groups from around the world including acrobats, choral groups, and precision military drill teams.  The performances of each country are beautiful, patriotic, and a favor performance featuring countries from all over the world.  You will love it!
 
The package trip will include motorcoach transportation, taxes and gratuities, bus tour of Norfolk Naval Base, dinner at the Golden Corral  (all-you-can-eat), admission to the two-hour Virginia International Tattoo Show at the Norfolk Scope, bottle water and treats on the bus and door prizes.   The cost of the day trip is $129.   Reservations and payment are due by February 15, 2019. Please complete the reservation form, make check payable to Robert Almond and sent to 1309 Westbrook Avenue, Richmond, VA 23227.

This past Tuesday, we hosted the Interfaith Center's "Day for All People" event. Our sanctuary was a beautiful sight and about 250 guests traveled from all over the state of Virginia to attend.
