Centennial College rising to the challenges of COVID-19
COVID-19 Relief Bursary Fund update: Over $620,000 raised – and counting
In late March, Centennial College announced the launch of the COVID-19 Relief Bursary Fund , a new resource aimed at offsetting the unexpected financial challenges being experienced by so many of our students during these unprecedented times.

In just a matter of weeks, over $620,000 has been raised toward this critical fund – representing $310,000 raised by the community and a dollar-for-dollar match by Centennial College – and nearly 3,000 students have already applied for support.

How Centennial grad Nikhil Kanamala helped a Northern BC town prepare for COVID-19
As the COVID-19 crisis unfolded across Canada, Nikhil Kanamala made sure his Northern British Columbia community was prepared.

A graduate of Centennial College’s Biomedical Engineering Technology program and now working for Northern Health’s Department of Biomedical Engineering in Smithers, BC, Nikhil is solely responsible for his district’s supply of medical equipment. Serving a large geographic area in the province’s northwest that includes a number of rural and remote towns, Nikhil knew that the district’s limited resources meant the population was particularly vulnerable to the impacts of the pandemic. He acted quickly.

Breaking down barriers for men in nursing
When Chuck Baker retired from Centennial College’s School of Community and Health Studies in 2013, he knew his work was not done. Having spent his career advocating for the role of men in nursing, the former professor was determined to continue breaking down barriers in the traditionally women-dominated field.

Ten tips for navigating global grief in the time of COVID-19
Centennial alum Yvonne Heath wants people to talk about grief. And she says there’s never been a better time than now, as the world navigates the complex impacts of COVID-19.

“What we’re experiencing right now is global grief,” says the former nurse. “And we need to acknowledge that so that we can talk about it, manage it and Just Show Up for one another.”

Thank you to the CCSAI!
We would like to extend a very special note of gratitude to our  Centennial College Student Association (CCSAI) , who made a critical leadership contribution donating an incredible $201,920 in support of the  COVID-19 Relief Bursary Fund !
To the CCSAI – thank you! We are deeply grateful for your support as we work together to help our students navigate through these difficult weeks and months.
Good News from Centennial
Promoting food security in local neighbourhoods. Mobilizing 3D printers to create personal protective equipment (PPE). Donating nearly 25,000 pairs of gloves, 17,000 individual masks and close to 800 safety glasses and goggles.

These are some of the many ways Centennial College is supporting frontline health care during the COVID-19 crisis. Despite the many hardships we have all faced during these past few months, the Centennial College community remains focused on promoting a spirit of solidarity, care and kindness.
