PTA Senior Scholarships

Centennial PTSA Senior Service Scholarships

Each year the Centennial High School PTSA offers several scholarships, some up to $1000, recognizing exceptional dedication to volunteerism among the senior class students. These scholarships will be awarded to students who best exemplify the PTSA's ideals of outstanding commitment of service to others in our school, community and world.

Any graduating senior with a GPA of 80 or higher who is enrolling at a college, university or technical institute of higher learning may apply. Applicants (or their families) must be a member of the PTSA by the end of the first semester to be eligible.

Applications and a detailed description are now available at the PTSA website and are due in the front office by Friday, March 27that 3:30pm. All applicants are encouraged to attend one of two workshops which will take place in early 2015. Dates for the workshops will be posted upon confirmation. This short workshop will provide students with an overview of the application and selection process, an opportunity to ask questions and learn about how to complete an application which best reflects the quality, diversity, leadership roles and overall impact of their community service over the past four years. If you have any questions, please contact Debbie Barone, Scholarship Committee Chair, at

The second Redistricting meeting was held on Wednesday Nov. 5 at Alpharetta High School.  Earlier that day as promised, the three plans for redistricting were placed on the FCS website and then presented that evening at the meeting.  Community members that attended were placed in small groups to comment on the pros and cons of each of the maps.

Although the area west of GA 400 near Holcomb Bridge Road was heavily discussed during the first redistricting meeting, Yngrid Huff, Executive Officer of Operational Planning at Fulton County Schools stated that they will not make changes using GA 400 as a dividing line.  She said that the large number of students in that area could not all be housed at schools in the west side of GA 400. She also noted that they conducted a study and concluded that Mimosa Elementary would have 1200 students at their school just with students who reside between Mimosa Elementary and GA 400. That number alone exceeds Mimosa Elementary's capacity.

The final redistricting meeting will be at Centennial on Wednesday, December 10 at 7:00 PM.  One map will be presented for comment.

Plan A: NFRound2_PlanA
Plan B: NFRound2_PlanB
Plan C: NFRound2_PlanC

Redistricting affects everybody in the community.  Please consider being part of the process.   More information can be found on our  website ,   Like us on Facebook  and the Fulton County Redistricting page.  We will update our sites with new information as we receive them.

School Governance Council Update

The Centennial School Governance Council has been working on a new Request for Flexibility (RFF) proposal and is in the process of submitting it for the upcoming school year.  This request if approved by the Superintendent, will address the needs of  Centennial High School through waivers of state laws and/or district policies to implement a school-based strategy.  Centennial SGC has developed one RFF proposal.

  • "Virtual/Online Learning" focused General Study Skills Elective: The flexibility that we seek is a seat time waiver in order to allow students to simultaneously earn a Study Skills credit while completing their credit recovery courses during school hours.

The RFF Public Comment Period Is from November 10th to December 5th, 2014. The Public Comment meeting is scheduled for Tuesday Nov. 18, 6:30 PM in the My Learning Commons Conference Room.  The complete proposal, the School Strategic Plan Overview and Strategic Plan Narrative can be found at

Learning Commons Update

Centennial High School's My Learning Commons (MLC), the former Media Center, has received a great deal of positive attention from many different groups. Our own MLC master architects, Marie Yelvington and Scott Kent, have played host and tour guide for many Fulton, Gwinnett and Forsyth County schools and schools from Charlotte-Mecklenburg, who exclaimed that our space was "World Class". In addition, Dr. Avossa has visited several times along with School Board members, State and local legislators, and dignitaries from both the cities of Roswell and Johns Creek.  Dr. Avossa and members of the School Board portray Centennial's MLC as a prime example of how the Seed Fund monies (originating from a State grant to FCS as part of the Charter School conversion) spur innovation and creative new approaches to education. In fact, FCS is so impressed with our MLC that Dr. Avossa will be presenting a plan to the Board to grant other FCS high schools money to transform their own Media Centers. If you have not seen it yet or talked with your student about how it has changed their learning experience, please do so!

Additional fundraising efforts this fall have allowed us to purchase a 70" TV that will be mounted over the MediaScape Center in addition to the two smaller TVs already there. Furthermore, we will purchase additional tables/chairs with individual white boards to enhance collaboration in the classroom spaces.

Our work is not done, however. The PTSA is accepting tax-deductible donations targeted for the Learning Commons to continue to enhance the space. Specifically, we hope to fund additional technology for the Advanced Projects Lab and the Distance Learning Center among other smaller enhancements (e.g. a charging station). Please send all donations to the front office in an envelope marked Attn: PTSA - Learning Commons Fund.

Fundraising at CHS

Current CHS Fundraisers
