Reminder of New Carpool Procedures
Student drop-off and pick-up is now in our back stadium parking lot. To increase student safety, there is a new traffic pattern that must be observed for all traffic in that lot.
1. When cars enter the lot, they will be directed to the right at the first turn.
2. ALL traffic must make that right turn and the lot will continue as a one-way loop.
3. There are two lanes by the sidewalk for the school and we ask that all drop-off and pickup will be in the right lane so through traffic can use the left lane.
4. Traffic will also need to complete the loop around the portables to exit, as the exits at the end of the rows will now be blocked off.
This traffic pattern will remain in effect 24 hours a day and will continue even after the front loop has reopened.
VISITORS TO THE SCHOOL: Come to this Stadium entrance. Park in any open spot. If you are going to be at the school for a long time, place a note on your dashboard. Go into the gym entrance doors and sign in at the desk located immediately at the entrance.

Centennial Athletics
2016 - 17 Season Tickets are now available.
This year Centennial is working with GoFan and Huddle Tickets to provide online ticketing for all of our Knight supporters.
Once on the page you can buy tickets for individual games. At the top of the list, you will see an All Sports Pass. At this time it says volleyball (the next available game) but this will give you tickets to ALL home sports events at Centennial for the 2016-17 school year (excluding playoffs). Once you click the BUY NOW button you will see all of the preloaded games. As games get added to our schedule for winter and spring sports, that list will continue to be updated and you will receive an individual game ticket for each event. You can buy tickets as a Centennial Student, an Adult, or as a Middle/Elementary aged student. Centennial students that purchase early will receive a free t-shirt or car flag (while supplies last)!
You can redeem tickets by using your smart phone. Tickets will be sent via email but will also be available on the GoFan ticketing app. Just open the app or email, select the game for that day and present the QR code to the ticket taker. They will scan your phone and you are good to go!

FOOTBALL
Knights Football Getting Ready for a Great Season!
While most of us think of Fall as the beginning of Football season, our Knights have been working hard all summer to get ready for a great year. This summer the Knights qualified for and competed in the National 7v7 Championship, July 14-16 in Hoover, AL for the 2
nd
year in a row. This event brings together the top 32 High School 7v7 Football teams in the country to compete, providing an opportunity for a national audience to preview teams and talent.
Another exciting event for the Knights this summer was the 2nd Annual Knights Golf Tournament, a team fundraiser that was held at Country Club of Roswell on July 25th. More than 90 players and volunteers participated in this event which included a four-man scramble golf tournament, a silent auction and dinner. We encourage you to think about joining us in this fun event next summer as a player or sponsor.
The Knights Fall game schedule will look a little different this year with some new teams on the calendar due to becoming part of the 7-AAAAAA region this Spring. The season opener will be on August 26th at Wheeler at 7:30 pm, with the first official home game of the season on September 2nd against South Forsyth.
On Thursday, August 18th, Centennial will be hosting our first pre-season scrimmage against Creekview at The Fortress. The Freshman game is at 6 pm with Varsity following at 7:30 pm. Please come out and support Knights Football! We hope to see you at the games this season.
It's A Great Day To Be A Knight!!
**A Special Note on the Away Game at Wheeler** Friday, August 26, Wheeler HS is having a Food Truck Night.
It starts at 5:30 and lasts until the start of the game.
- There will be several good food trucks, games, and so much more.
- All ages are welcome.
- It will be in the parking lot in front of the stadium.
It is also Luau night. Wheeler will dress in spirit wear or in luau clothing. Let's make sure that we are wearing our Knights colors!!

Centennial Governance Council (SGC)
Centennial's SGC just approved our school's next Strategic Plan. The 3 Areas that Centennial will Focus on over the next 3 years will be: Personalized Learning, Effective Instruction, and Technology. See below for the complete plan summary.
Also, through the Seed Fund Grant, Centennial will implement a learning space that allows students to engage in authentic and highly-individualized educational opportunities with cutting edge tools, both digital and analog, to accomplish class and personal projects. We will call our innovative learning space simply "The SPaCE" which will directly support our emerging school culture of "Shared Personalized and Creative Experiences."
The SPaCE will be located in the Learning Commons. It will feature 3 rooms named the Shop, the Surge, and the Studio. The Shop will be geared toward building and will feature high end 3D printers and laser cutters. The Surge will feature electronics and robotics. Finally, the Studio will have high end Audio/Video recording technology and editing software.
Centennial High School is committed to giving every student personalized, optimized learning opportunities. This commitment means that we aim to engage every student at his or her highest levels of learning. Our focus on personalized learning gives us an effective vehicle to engage all our students. Personalized learning requires a dramatic shift in teaching methodologies and infrastructure. Through the SPaCE we will provide access to a learning space where project-based, hands-on learning is specifically supported through differentiated best practices and strategies.
For this upcoming 2016-2017 school year, the Centennial Governance Council members are:
Kibbey Crumbley, Caroline Truax, Shellie Marino, Courtney Allen, Diane Jacobi, David Smith, Stacy Christie, Chelsea Burney, Norma Escalera-Smith, and Marie Willsey. Two senior students will also be joining the SGC.
Everybody is welcome to attend the monthly SGC meetings. All meeting information can be found at http://www.chsknights.com/our-school/school-governance-council/. There are always 2 two minute slots open for public comment if anyone wants to address the Council. We are looking forward to another very exciting year. Go Knights!!

North Point Mall College Fair - 8/29/16
JUNIORS AND SENIORS: This is an excellent opportunity to
meet college reps and gather info from 30+ colleges, including ALL of the major colleges in the southeast. The college recruiters that are here are typically the ones who will be reviewing college applications for their college and coming to our high school for college visits. It is ALWAYS a good idea to meet them. Colleges keep track of your interest in them: college visits, college fairs, college visits to the high school, emails to the college, etc. They LIKE to see that you have a true interest in their school. The North Point Mall College PROBE Fair is on Monday, 8/29 from 6-9pm throughout the entire downstairs of the mall. Take advantage of this super close opportunity to learn about many, many colleges.

International Baccalaureate (IB)
Welcome back to Centennial!!!
I am Marchele Nelson, the IB Coordinator. As the new academic year begins, we are officially a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme for our 11
th
and 12
th
graders and pursuing authorization as an IB World School.
IB World Schools share a common philosophy-a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high quality programmes of international education that share a powerful vision.
This summer some of our teachers helped us move toward our goal as well. Four teachers attended training in their content areas of Literature, Spanish, Art, and Physics. We will have several teachers to attend throughout the school year as well. I will work to keep your informed about our progress through the help of the PTSA and the school website.
Be on the lookout for our new IB newsletter throughout the year as well!! GO KNIGHTS!!
|
Voter Registration Drive
Centennial High School PTSA will be holding a voter registration drive for students who will be at least 18 on or before Tuesday, November 8, 2016. We encourage all our members to become educated on the issues and candidates and to CAST THEIR VOTE.
This year, in addition to the presidential, congressional, and state legislator races, there will also be four constitutional amendments on the ballot. One, if passed, would allow state takeover of public schools. Georgia PTA has taken a position on this amendment; you can find out more about the amendment and PTA's position at
http://www.georgiapta.org/issues-action/opportunity-school-district-legislation/
Please speak with your student on this important aspect of citizenship. If you are not registered to vote or would like to help your student fill out the form, you can register on-line at
