Top Locker Promotion
Back by Popular Demand!    DEADLINE EXTENDED!!!!!

Join the PTSA no later than  August 3, 2016  and be eligible for a Top Locker.

Here's how it works: For each PTSA membership that you purchase, you receive eligibility to purchase one top locker for your student, subject to availability. Due to the popularity of this promotion last year, we have to limit the number of lockers that we reserve based on the number available in the school. We have extended this promotion through August 3, but we expect to run out before that, so don't hesitate.

By joining the Centennial PTSA, you show your kids that school is important, you are invested in their success and you ensure parents have a voice when important decisions about our schools are being made.
In addition to supporting Centennial High School & the PTSA, you receive these other benefits:
1.)   Your membership donation is tax-deductible.
2.) Your membership card provides you with discounts at Staples, Hertz, Chattahoochee Nature Center, Zoo Atlanta, Papa John's Pizza, and the Alliance Theatre to name just a few.

  • You will receive an email confirmation/tax receipt within two weeks of joining
  • Please BRING confirmation of joining with you to Open House to receive your top locker - a copy of the receipt on a phone is acceptable
  • The $25.00 CHS Locker Fee is additional. You must pay the PTSA fee prior to 8/3 and THEN you also must pay $25 locker fee at open house. Anyone who wants a school locker must pay the $25 locker fee.

Centennial Renovation Update
A note from Dr. Glymph... our Assistant Principal who has coordinated the building updates this summer!

It has been an exciting journey renovating Centennial this summer! Actually the work really started during Spring Break and continued on. I am happy to share with you our summary of work done at Centennial and I will keep you posted as we go through the new school year of 2016-2017.

Centennial High school opened its doors for students in 1997 and has been a home for so many wonderful scholars, athletes, artists, actors, musicians, and student leaders. We truly have an amazing Centennial community. Our campus and building were definitely in need of renovations and updates. Most of the renovations have occurred through SPLOST funding, with smaller projects occurring through corporate partnerships and various booster organization support - all stakeholders have been involved!

Renovating Centennial has been like renovating your own home. You want to preserve its character but you want to improve the quality and comfort of your space - in our case, updates to improve teaching, learning, and coaching environments. It has certainly been an exciting and challenging process which brought together so many different teams.

All of the improvements mean Centennial is a safer and better-equipped environment for teaching and learning. Now our campus is more energy-efficient, more beautiful, and better-equipped for personalized learning. Expect to see improved spaces, better views, a more modern look, and fresh painting inside and outside.

The Grand Lobby Addition has been projected to be completed by January 2017.
Due to the Lobby Addition work, the new student drop-off and pick-up area will be by the Gym Lobby Entrance.
All other renovation work will be completed as scheduled by August 4 th , 2016 and you will definitely have a chance to see for yourself during Open House:
  • New beautiful flooring in all hallways and selected classrooms and conference rooms(based on need); counseling and main office suites
  • Major building HVAC upgrade and replacement
  • 26 ERU (Energy Recovery Units) were installed on the roof for clean, fresh, and pure air
  • New Theater seating and flooring (new stage curtain has been purchased as well)
  • New Theater Lobby flooring
  • Updated restrooms (new partitions, paper towel, toilet paper, and soap dispensers), fresh wall paint
  • Renovated and reconfigured kitchen with new finishes and appliances; freezer and cooler; washing area; food serving lines
  • New marker boards
  • New flooring in the main gym and auxiliary gym
  • New gym tracks, inside and out
  • Replaced skylights and new light fixtures
  • Upgraded HVAC systems in all locker rooms
  • New exhaust system for kiln rooms
  • New exhaust hoods in food and nutrition classroom
  • New fire alarm system
  • Upgraded electrical work
  • New stadium track
  • New concrete pathway between cafeteria, outside lunch area, and weight room
  • New security camera system
  • New Water Fountains

We have been fortunate to earn seed fund money for the third time because of the excellent work done by the School Governance Council led by our Principal Kibbey Crumbley, media center specialst Laura Wood, and parent representatives Caroline Truax, Diane Jacobi, and Karen LeCates. The Learning Commons has gained the amazing S.P.A.C.E! Please stop by to see the new portable shelving units, glass window walls, circulation center, and other features of this truly collaborative environment.

Our Fine Arts Foundation led by Charly Rowlands and Karen LeCates designed a wonderful makeover of the Theater Lobby. It is enhanced by new acoustical ceiling tiles, additional art display areas and an updated light fixture system.
We are excited about a new partnership with Kimberly Clark for a healthier, germ-free school environment. The company provided us with brand new dispensers for paper towels, soap, and toilet paper. This dovetailed perfectly with the updates made by our SPLOST contractors, including new paint, bathroom partition repairs/replacement, and new urinal screens.
Last, but certainly not least, are our beautifully renovated CBI classrooms that answer to all student needs and are on par with the updates received at other district high schools with CBI departments.

We look forward to welcoming you to a newly renovated Centennial in August!
Our best days are ahead!

Yours truly,
Dr. Glymph
Assistant Principal

Centennial Clubs to Consider Joining...

SkillsUSA is a national, nonprofit student organization that has developed more than 10 million employees through active partnerships between employers and educators. Hundreds of American industries have turned to SkillsUSA as the source for employees who exemplify "Champions at Work" in both skills and attitudes. SkillsUSA's mission is to empower its members to become world-class employees, leaders and responsible American citizens. At the heart of this mission are SkillsUSA's core values: integrity, responsibility, citizenship, service and respect. SkillsUSA Georgia is focused on serving high school students who are looking to build character, leadership skills, and career/college preparation. Mock Trial:
Georgia High School Mock Trial Competition is coached by volunteer attorneys and teachers - teams of 14 students work together to prepare their presentations from case materials provided by the High School Mock Trial Committee. In the  competition phase, students play the roles of attorneys and witnesses based on the witness statements and evidence provided in the case materials. Teams are evaluated on their ability to make a logical, cohesive and persuasive presentation, rather than on the legal merits of the case. Adding to the authenticity of the competition, teams compete in actual courtrooms across the state beginning with the Regional competitions. The top three teams from each Region advance to the District Competitions to vie for a spot at the State Finals Competition. This is a program that prepares students in developing excellent debate, verbal/written communication skills. See Ms. Terrell in F45 for more information or visit

Junior Knights Lacrosse and Rocket Shot 5K
Jr. Knights lacrosse registration and fall clinic:

The 2016 Fall Lacrosse season is just a few weeks away.  Registration is open for all boys & girls - U9-U15.  To register, go to

Also, as in years past, the Jr. Knights are an active sponsor of the Jamie McHenry Memorial Foundation.  The annual RocketShot 5k is right around the corner.

This year, on the heels of the RocketShot 5k & fun run, the Centennial Knights boys' and girls' high school coaches would like to invite all interested athletes to participate in a free1-hour lacrosse clinic.  They'll have multiple stations set up for each position (midfield, attack, defense, and goalie) and for both boys and girls.  They'll go over the basic fundamentals of each position along with some practical applications.  The coaches also will be joined by some of the high school varsity players.

It's a great opportunity for younger players - existing and new to the sport - to come out and support the Jamie McHenry Memorial Foundation, plus they'll get to meet the varsity coaches, play with the high school players, and burn off some built-up energy.  On the heels of the clinic, we'll have a shooting exhibition in which the kids will get to watch the high school players show off  their shooting skills (fast, finesse, behind the back, etc).  That will be followed by a chance for the kids themselves to win prizes for fastest shot in their age division.

This event will follow the RocketShot 5k/Fun Run at Centennial High School on August 6th.  The 5k race starts at 7:30 am, the fun run at 8:30 am, and these events will start shortly after.  Register for the RocketShot 5k by following this link  and plan to join us after the race for the lacrosse festivities!
