PTSA Reflections

CONGRATULATIONS to Marissa Fish and Donna Charlton!  Your projects were chosen to move on to the Council level of the Reflections competition!  After projects are judged at the Council level, winners move on to the State and then National levels.  The Reflections program is 48 years old and is the biggest PTA sponsored program.  Kudos to Marissa and Donna for their participation and accomplishment!

On Thanksgiving morning tune into NBC at 9 a.m. for the 2017 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Centennial trumpet player Eli Rickles will be marching in the Macy's Great American Marching Band, which is comprised of high school band students from all 50 states. Eli was chosen to participate through a competitive audition process. He is proud to represent Centennial High School!

Please Pay Your Property Tax Bills as Soon as Possible!
A decision made by the Fulton County Commission to freeze residential property assessments at 2016 values created dire consequences for our school district because it delayed tax bills being mailed to property owners. (Property tax bills are usually mailed late summer and due in full by mid October.)

Our Fulton Schools budget is based on 63% of the revenue coming from property taxes, and since we are not receiving the expected revenue to completely fund our budget, there is a significant shortfall to cover payroll and pay our bills.
As parents, one thing that we can do to help is to pay our property taxes as soon as possible - bills should be mailed out shortly. If your property taxes are paid through your mortgage company, call and ask them to be paid now versus the due date.  Fulton County Schools is struggling to hit December payroll - let's help them by getting some funds flowing into the county.

To keep you updated, Fulton County Schools created a Webpage. Use this link:  for more information.
Note: this issue is also affecting Atlanta Public Schools, Fulton County government, and cities of Roswell and Johns Creek, in addition to all other Fulton County cities.
PTSA Senior Service Scholarship Opportunity! education_savings.jpg
Each year the Centennial High School PTSA offers several scholarships, some up to $1000, recognizing exceptional dedication to volunteerism among the senior class students. These scholarships will be awarded to students who best exemplify the PTSA's ideals of outstanding commitment of service to others in our school, community and world.
Any graduating senior with a GPA of 80 or higher who is enrolling at a college, university or technical institute of higher learning may apply. Applicants (or their families) must be a member of the PTSA by the end of the first semester to be eligible.
Applications and a detailed description is available here and on the PTSA website and is due in the front office by Friday, March 30th at 3:30pm. All applicants are encouraged to attend one of two workshops that will take place in January during lunch in the Learning Commons meeting room. This 10 minute workshop will provide students with an overview of the application and selection process, an opportunity to ask questions and learn about how to complete an application.

Centennial's College Week college_campus.jpg

Check out all of the fun at

School Climate Survey - this is very important to fill out!
Parents: just by taking this survey, you help to raise our school's report card rating.
Each school receives a School Climate Star Rating (an important part of the CCRPI score or how our school is graded) and we need your input.
Please take a moment and fill out the Georgia Parent Survey below. Right now, we only have 20 participants...we need to hear from a lot more of you!  We want to know how you feel Centennial is doing! For the last 3 school years we earned 4 out of 5 stars!
FCS Student and Staff Make-Up Day Announced
Fulton County Schools announces that it will make up one of the 3 school days missed because of Hurricane Irma. February 16 is now a scheduled school day - all students need to come to school on this day.
On 9/11-9/13, the district closed school due to widespread power outages throughout the county. Two of the days were during the Governor's State of Emergency, so the district does not have to make up those days. So, Fulton County Schools will be making up just one of the 3 days that we were out.

Remember to Use your Publix Scan Cards!

Do you know that the CHS PTSA has received over $14,000 from Publix over the years?!  That is a lot of money - and it takes no effort at all.  Just use your scan card every time that you make a purchase at Publix.  If you do not have a scan card, you can get one at the front desk.  They are available throughout the school year.  You or your student can pick up extra cards for grandparents, friends and neighbors to use.  Everyone buys groceries, and having these cards scanned when you shop at Publix is an easy way to help CHS PTSA!
