A GRAND LOVE (Zoom)

Thursday, October 24, 3:00 p.m.

Grandparents who become aware that their grandchild’s gender identity doesn’t match the sex assigned to them at birth can feel confused and alone. While the field of knowledge in this area is growing at a very fast pace, many therapists, counsellors, teachers, and school administrators remain unskilled and uninformed when it comes to working with transgender or gender diverse children and their parents, grandparents, and other family members.

Part educational, part storytelling, and chock-full of inspiration, “A Grand Love: Stories for Grandparents of Transgender Grandchildren” will inform and uplift anyone who reads it.

At this gathering, Janna Barkin will read a few excerpts from her book “A Grand Love,” and there will be time for Q. and A.

Registration required, no fee.

Presenter: Janna Barkin

SENIORS FOR SENIORS ANNOUNCEMENT

The Seniors for Seniors initiative pairs local high school seniors with one of our senior volunteers for a virtual penpal-style relationship. Through Zoom, email, FaceTime, or whichever platform works best for you, you’ll have the chance to share stories, experiences, and wisdom with the students. Former participants found the connections truly rewarding — discussing everything from family and career paths to hobbies, pets, and dreams. You may be surprised how much you have in common!

To make the best match between you and a student, we kindly ask that you send us a short blurb about yourself. This introduction will help us create compatible pairings to ensure an enjoyable and meaningful experience for both you and your student partner.

We have just four spots left this year, and your participation would be greatly appreciated! If you're interested in joining, please fill out the form using this link:

MEET ONE OF OUR NEWEST BOARD MEMBERS: Sonali Pathirana

"During the last few years, eldercare dominated many conversations with friends and family and that's why I joined the board of the Center for Modern Aging Princeton. We’re all caregivers in some way, and I wanted to learn more as well as contribute to the needs of the community. Ensuring that everyone on the board is heard and diverse viewpoints are considered is challenging, even while making sure there’s an efficient result.

"I'm proud that colleagues from Bloomberg volunteered 2,500+ hours of service as part of Bloomberg Philanthropies' meaningful community support and impact in action."
