Practicing the Presence of God: Brother Lawrence
A Humble 17th Century Carmelite Monk
  Saturday, January 19, 2019
"AND  THE  WORD  WAS  MADE  FLESH"
The purpose of these half-day retreats is to deepen our awareness of God's transforming presence in our lives.

The January 19 retreat explores the spiritual practices of Brother Lawrence, a humble 17th century Carmelite monk, and how these practices can benefit us during both times of contemplative prayer and as we go about our daily lives. The morning will include three 30 minute periods of centering prayer and an interactive lecture on Brother Lawrence and the Practice of the Presence of God.

Centering Prayer is a  receptive method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself.

This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. Centering Prayer emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God and as a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with Christ.
