2019 Half-Day Retreat Series
The Mystery of Christ Crucified
  Saturday, April 20, 2019
April Retreat 2019
"I have been crucified with Christ; yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me."
Galatians 2:19-20

The purpose of these half-day retreats is to deepen our awareness of God's transforming presence in our lives.

To practice Centering Prayer is to identify with Christ Crucified.  We discover the Mystery of God as we take the way of the cross through letting go and contemplation. In silence our Christ nature awakens. Such contemplative silence is a deep sharing in the cross. But, the cross is misunderstood. Carmelite nun Ruth Burrows wrote, "The deepest reason why so few of us are saints is because we will not let God love us. To be loved means a naked, defenseless surrender to all God is. It means a glad acceptance of our nothingness, a look fixed only on the God who gives." This is the mystery of the cross. The morning will include three 30-minute periods of centering prayer and a reflection on the mystery of Christ Crucified and contemplative prayer.

Centering Prayer is a  receptive method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, prayer in which we experience God's presence within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than consciousness itself.

This method of prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. Centering Prayer emphasizes prayer as a personal relationship with God and as a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with Christ.
