Happy October!
I love this time of the year. The air begins to feel more crisp as the summer heat fades away. I really enjoy the football games on television. I'm especially excited that my fightin' Texas Aggies are ranked in the top 10 and holding tough in the toughest conference in the nation; the SEC of course!
I am also excited about the worship services this month. In the church calendar, October is the month for World Communion Sunday. Christian churches around the world will celebrate communion this month on every Sunday. Fortunately for us, this is something special we get to experience each Sunday throughout the entire year.
In thinking about Christians from around the world, I thought it would be beneficial for us to learn some about other world religions and some of our global neighbors who Christians interact with across the oceans and continents. Therefore, we will compare five of the other major world religions to Christianity and learn more about why we believe what we believe.
Those religions we will learning about will be Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and the Ba'Hai faith. We will be fortunate enough to host the Rev. Dr. Whit Bodman of the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary on October 16th as he will speak to Islam and Christianity. This is something you will not want to miss out on.
Remember, if you are unable to make it to any of the Sunday services, make sure you keep an eye out for the downloaded audio recording of the sermon which can be found at our website: cccaustin.org/media/inspirational-messages/
You can also tune into Sun Radio on the FM dial at 100.1 or go to their website and live stream the audio sermon which starts at approximately 8am on Sunday mornings.
Blessings to you all,
Eric

From behind the Wall...
Well, the last time you read a letter from "Behind the Wall" it was from a wonderful gentleman none other than Ed Heenan, who has served as your Organist and Music Director for almost 30 years!
I have been honored to take his place at the console behind the wall and play at the magnificent instrument you have all worked so lovingly and hard for to have refurbished and enlarged. It will be a year this month coming to you as your organist, and I am grateful and blessed to be a part of the Central Christian Church community. It has truly been a pleasure, especially working with Mark and our talented singers each week.
So much has happened since then: Shortly after I played my first service with you, I was married to my husband Dan, I returned from honeymoon and quite suddenly, almost, I became your office administrator! (Let me tell you, every other day for months I was hoping Berta would come back!) On Easter weekend, Dan and I welcomed a little 8-year-old boy, who in just hours of writing this will officially be adopted by his forever family! So, I thank the CCC community for the prayers it has offered for Galvin, and I am glad that you didn't mind him every now and then climbing out from "behind the wall" during worship, waving to Brad in the back of the church, or dangling over the edge!
That "wall" I "hide" behind, with the emblems of the four Gospels, is not a barrier because I have heard your voices sing in praise while I play. I have listened to you gather joyfully as I offer the prelude. I have taken photos (rather inconspicuously) of you on occasion from behind that wall. Heh heh! I hear your footsteps as you go forth to the world, or to luncheon, when I pull out all the stops for the postlude. I look forward to continuing to proclaim the Gospel through the music I play for you from behind that wall. Thanks for an amazing year!
Peace, Ray
