Proper Hotel Opens on Market Street

Proper Hotel (7th and Market) opened in September, and it's already the place to be. The team behind the renovations to the Beaux Arts-designed flatiron built in 1904 unified original design details with modern elements -- and the details throughout the renovated space are being noticed for all the right reasons. As the San Francisco Chronicle notes: "...the design brings together the Old World with the new in the form of rich textures and deep hues - a wildly colorful feast for the senses."

In-house restaurant  Villon restaurant, run by James Beard-nominated chef Jason Franey, and rooftop bar Charmaine's, are also drawing crowds as well. As one reporter notes of Charmine's: "This rooftop bar could be the Top of the Mark for the 21st Century."  Read More

San Francisco Department of Public Health Cites BART/MUNI Station

The Department of Public Health found the Civic Center BART/MUNI station to be a hazard, specifically in regards to sanitation, drug sales and open drug use. The station was promptly cleaned and BART hired two additional employees to maintain the downtown stations.  Learn More

Goodwill's Flagship Store Closes After 20 Years

The flagship store, which moved in after the building was completed in 1997, left the space in August. Proceeds from the sale of the building help Goodwill build a new  Comprehensive Access Point Career Center Meanwhile, the  building, which has already been torn down, will be replaced with a larger mixed-use development, and will house City agency offices.  Learn More

Hudson Pacific's 1455 Market Street is in the midst of welcoming new ground-floor restaurants.  Kagawa-Ya Udon Noodle Company serves slurp-worthy noodles and will soon be joined by Mateo's Taqueria, which serves a full menu of Mexican classics, and  Dough & Co, an egg-free cookie dough cafe where those with a sweet tooth can eat it as-is or baked.  Learn More


Community Guide Ambassadors are the eyes are ears of the street. 
Among many duties, they facilitate safe needle disposal  and 
assist with a medical emergency on Market Street. 


The Clean Team tackles the tough jobs of cleaning brick-and-mortar sidewalks and removing discarded needles.


6th Street's Frena Bakery and Shree Ganeshi Hotel (home of Pentacle Coffee
  are looking spiffy with their fresh coats of paint.
