New Wayfinding Signage coming to Civic Center BART Station
We're happy to report BART will be installing more wayfinding signage in, and around the Civic Center Station to support riders as they re-learn how to navigate the Station and reach neighborhood destinations with some entrances and escalators no longer in service.
Recent Station entrance closures and the loss of two escalators are taking a toll on riders and their destinations. The new wayfinding program includes directional signs inside and outside the Station. The pilot program came about because the Civic Center and Central Market CBD Boards of Directors met with BART and advocated for more assistance for District employers, businesses and arts organizations whose employees, customers and patrons take BART to the area. Thank you CBD Boards and BART leadership for rolling out this program which should result in happier, safer and more confident Station users.

Safe Injection Sites
Vetoed by Governor Brown
In late September Governor Brown
vetoed bill AB186, which would have allowed for San Francisco safe injection sites, like the mock center that was recently set-up in the Tenderloin, to operate as part of a four-year pilot program. But the fight may not be over if Gavin Newsom is elected governor. He is open to
the idea.

Zoning Changes Proposed for Part of Central SoMa Plan in
Central Market
Supervisor Jane Kim called for changes to the Central SoMa Plan in include more housing, as the
SF Chronicle noted: "Originally, the plan envisioned 7,000 housing units and space for about 39,000 jobs. Gradually, city planners have been looking for ways to increase the amount of housing. Kim's amendments would bring the housing unit count up to 8,550 housing units and the jobs down to about 32,500."
A
vote in early September allowed for a continuation of consideration on four various appeals to the plan, but the
SF Examiner noted all four appeals were unanimously rejected by the Board of Supervisors at a vote later in the month. The article goes on to state: "Had the appeals succeeded, the development allowed under the plan would have had to wait indefinitely until further analysis was completed. But with the appeals rejected, the actual plan to rezone the area is now expected to come before the Board for a vote within a month."
