Skyline Registration | Opens Today!

Registration for Skyline Children's Theater at Central School opens today Wednesday, November 5th at 12:00 pm. Registration will be open to current 3rd and 4th grade students at Central.

Skyline Children's Theater is back at Central School and is presenting Willy Wonka Jr.!

The delicious adventures of Willy Wonka's magical chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl’s fantastical tale. Featuring the beloved songs from the 1971 film classic such as “The Candy Man,” “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” and “Pure Imagination,” along with a delightful array of new songs, Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka JR. is a scrumdidilyumptious musical treat for audiences of all ages.

Broadway Stars (3rd & 4th Graders) get an opportunity to take center stage and showcase their talent as they sing solos, bring characters to life, and master choreography. This no-cut program is guided by a professional teaching artist. Stars level up by singing solos, developing character, and learning fundamental musical theatre choreography. Every actor who participates is assigned a named role, and receives a script and rehearsal materials. The stage is set, and the spotlight awaits.

Central Spotlight | Meet the Teacher/Staff

Name: Marie Ortmann

What is your role at Central?: First Grade Teacher

What is your favorite thing about being a teacher?: I love the relationships I build with each student. It's so cool how I get to know all the little things that make them unique. They also learn so much about me, and I am so surprised at how much they remember about me.

If you could time travel, what time period would you choose?: I love reading books set during World War II. It is a fascinating time period to me.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and could only have one children's book with you, what would it be?: Charlotte's Web. I love the message of friendship that this book shares. It would help me to remember that I am loved and have people who miss me while I am on that deserted island.

What is the most unusual thing you've ever eaten?: I've eaten a lot of crazy things like head cheese, rocky mountain oysters, and every sort of pâté you can imagine. But out of everything, I think blood sausage is the most unusual because I can still remember how awful it felt and tasted in my mouth.

What secret talent do you have?: I don't think I keep any of my talents a secret. My students know about what I love to do and sports I play. The only thing that the students may not know is that I love to organize! Give me a messy bedroom, closet, bathroom, basement, and I will have it looking like The Container Store in no time.

What is the most important lesson you want your students to learn? I think that the most important lesson we can teach our children is to treat other people they way we want to be treated. It encompasses everything - be kind, be respectful, be empathetic, be helpful, be your best self.
