Stay connected with us as we bring you the latest happenings and stories that will surely make your day pine-tastic! | | NEW! Data Center Template Ordinance & Use Guide | Over the past year, Central Pines Regional Council has brought local governments together to better understand and prepare for data center development in our region. As communities work to learn about different types of data centers and how these projects might affect residents and resources, we’re pleased to share the result of that work: the CPRC Data Center Ordinance Template and a Community Use Guide. | The template helps local governments review zoning considerations for data centers. It offers best practices for adding data centers as a new use or updating existing definitions and standards, all while staying compliant with state regulations and local authority. | |
A few things to know:
-
It’s not meant to be adopted as-is. Communities can use it to decide the right path forward, with vetted zoning language and guidance.
-
It’s neutral. The template does not promote or oppose data center development. CPRC’s role is to bring local governments together, identify shared interests, and provide useful tools so each community can make decisions that fit its values.
-
It’s one resource among many. Use it as a starting point when considering data center applications.

As data center proposals continue to emerge across our region, communities are looking for practical tools to guide local decision-making. We’re pleased to invite you to a webinar introducing our newly created data center ordinance template.
During this session, we’ll walk through the template, share how we developed it, and discuss how communities can adapt it to reflect their own local needs. We’ll also hear from those of you working through these issues in your own communities.
| Plenty of time will be reserved for questions. You can submit them in advance when you register or ask them live during the webinar. | |
A Thank You

| | | 2030 Census Rulemaking: Comments Due Nov. 2 | The Census Bureau has proposed changes to the decennial census residence criteria and demographic questions. The National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) submitted comments on October 13 urging the Bureau to keep its existing methodology. | |
NARC recommends:
- Keeping the current April 1 residence standard
- Continuing to count all U.S. residents, regardless of citizenship status
- Retaining key demographic questions
| The proposed changes could lead to less accurate data, making it harder for regions and local governments to plan for transportation, economic development, and service delivery, and potentially limiting federal funding for communities. | The public comment deadline has been extended to November 2, 2026. We encourage you to use NARC’s letter as a starting point for your own comments to the Census Bureau and to contact your congressional delegation, since Congress has final approval over the census questions. | | | Golden Pinecone Awards: Nominations Open! | Do you know someone in your community who deserves a little recognition?
