Twelve people in Central Providence have taken the first step toward becoming community health workers.

The 5-week Mission Program, a pre-apprenticeship course sponsored by ONE Neighborhood Builders, provides 40 hours of instruction and mentorship in a field that provides referrals for health care and social services in Central Providence.

On March 3, 2023, the students will graduate. Several will take the next step toward earning their apprenticeship and becoming full-time community health workers.

IMPROVING ECONOMIC MOBILITY

& HEALTH IN CENTRAL PROVIDENCE

‘Roadmap’ Discussions continue

More than 45 nonprofits, businesses, and other stakeholders in Central Providence gathered February 7 to continue discussions about the “Central Providence Roadmap,” a collective vision for improving health and economic equity in Central Providence over the next 10 years.

Participants reviewed changes to the overall plan that were suggested at the group’s first gathering in November and considered their role in its ongoing implementation.

The project is an initiative of Central Providence Opportunities: A Health Equity Zone, for which ONE Neighborhood Builders serves as a convening or “backbone” agency.

Though it will be published in its first form early this spring, the Roadmap will continually change based on the evolving needs and desires of the stakeholders from the nine neighborhoods of Central Providence.
